There aren't many single-protein, unique protein treats made specifically for cats, so I often find myself in the dog treat aisle. (Thank you for sharing, dog people. You all are awesome.)Unfortunately, these weren't a hit with our allergic cat or the other two. All three cats went crazy over the treat bag when I brought it out, which is almost always a good sign. I pulled a treat out of the bag and was surprised that it was so thick -- almost 1/2 inch. I checked a few more pieces and conclude that this was the standard thickness of the treat. I'm used to modifying dog treats and had a knife at the ready. Each treat could be easily cut into between 6 and 9 cat-friendly squares. Again we went into sniffapalooza mode. Finally, our youngest cat had a taste, and then a square and then another square. Allergic cat left the room.Later on I tried slicing the treat and grating it. No joy. I did notice that while all three of the cats seemed to be interested in the smell of the treat, they just weren't interested enough in the either the taste or the texture to pursue it. The treats do feel very, very dry to me. If you break one of them apart, they don't shatter, but they aren't at all moist. I'm not sure if that's how these treats are supposed to be or if I just got a bad batch.Since I have lots of natural duck dog treats left to experiment with, I might try pulverizing the treats in the food processor and mixing them with some kind of fat. Just not sure yet what will work best.
