I got this with a rca to female 3.5mm connector to use with wired headphones & I cant get it to function, am I doing something wrong?

** Just to be more sure. I just went and plugged MY Standard wired HEADPHONE into my RCA to 3.5mm female jack on my audio extractor, and turned on my TV. Seems like the volume is one steady LOW volume through standard wired headphones,so it seems YOU will need some type of amplifier/pre-amplifier to raise the volume of your standard headphones. I tried upping the volume control on my TV's REMOTE CONTROL and it had NO effect on the headphone audio volume at all.  I have used a wireless headphone through my 3.5mm jack previously and it does have an amplifier so that way it did work ok for me in that manner. BUT you have made us all aware that this audio Extractor doesn't amplify any volume to a standard pair of headphones. Thanks for that, we all learned from your message.

Question 2

If i have it extract rca for my zone 2, will it still pass video & audio out hdmi to my main receiver?

If it doesn't...as Musou mentioned, this is not positive, as most often want/need the audio to pass thru HDMI for audio out of the TV at all times, and to also have analog audio passing via zone 2 at all times in parallel and simultaneously.

Can i use this to connect a soundbar that uses optical digital audio & hdmi to a samsung tv that doesn't have optical digital audio but does have hdmi

Yes, it is made to split the audio out of a hdmi connection. If your tv has a hdmi out that is. Most TVs do not. But you could split your audio out of a cable box, blue ray, or whatever you are connecting to the tv.

Thought i could output samsung mu8000 through hdmi arc to this device to output audio to my receiver speakers.   does not work.   help
