It's 1 screw per bracket... with a decent amount of vertical adjustment possible between the brackets, allowing you to line up perfectly with holes from a previous rail. Good, solid item that is wearing well.

Are the anchors that attach to the wall also steel or plastic?

The Shower fittings are all metal. The anchors are plastic. I have used my own stronger wall plugs and screws to attach the shower to the wall. If you are fixing the shower rail to a tiled wall, use a proper tile drill to prevent the drill from slipping and marking the tiles.

Are the brackets at either end in chrome version steel or plastic? Thanks

The brackets and rail are Chrome look which is in fact Stainless steel polished their is a lot of difference. Far better than chrome or plastic. Hope this helps.
