I would not recommend it for this purpose, as it hurts the wrists and does not provide the right type of support, but it gets the job done in a pinch. My typical use is I have 1 crutch in the car and 1 crutch in the house, and I use it as a cane alternative. I walk inside a building with my crutch folded and try to walk as much as I can without hurting myself. They are light and sturdy, just what you would expect from a high quality carbon fiber built item. It is balanced well and very light. They are lighter than my normal aluminum crutches and feel much more comfortable. The case is a nice touch, but the case is just a bag with a draw string. They should make an actual carrying case that will hold two that I can wear as a backpack. They would sell along with these crutches, if they make it. I literally was searching for travel friendly crutches. These are definitely travel friendly, but they won't fit in a typical backpack, nor a normal carryon luggage. They are approximately 22.4" when folded and the height of a typical back pack is 18". Carry on luggage is about 20-22". This will fit fine in your large checked luggage. I jerry rigged my 18" backpack so that they will hold these crutches if I put them in the side water bottle holders and secure them with an elastic velcro band that is 24.6" long and can stretch to 40". You will need a strap that can wrap around the circumference of your backpack, and a backpack with water bottle holder(s). You can find these elastic straps here on Amazon by searching for "elastic velcro straps". These crutches do not have shock absorbers, just in case you are wondering.
