How do the release buckles hold up? If that thing breaks, the strap will fall off shoulders and you just broke a very expensive $1k-$3k camera...

I've had some of my OP/Tech straps for over 30 years, and the original strap clasps and neoprene are still working well. They're beat up, but perfectly functional.

I'm confused on the Pattern selection? Does the "single' come with the pieces needed to attach it to my camera or do i select strap+uni loop?

I am looking for a strap to increase comfort and camera safety during travel touring. Is this the most suitable OpTech strap for my needs?

I can't say that is the MOST suitable for your needs but I find the strap to be comfortable over extended periods over the OEM straps that come with cameras. The things I like about the strap are: the cushioning of the neoprene and the modular nature of the Uni-Loops (you can remove the strap completely, switch to a wrist or sling strap, or use a pack strap adapteer using the same connectors). I chose this version over the same strap with the pro-loop connectors because I thought the shorter connectors would make it easier to change configurations.

I have a Sony NEX 5N. Would this strap be too big for Sony NEX cameras?

No. Not too big, even for a small camera. Because the strap is stretchy, it provides neck comfort walking or hiking with a camera attached to you by a neck strap.
