Review: It works! - I got this drain to keep odors in my shower at bay, and I am very happy with the results. No more odors. At first, I installed it only one inch deep, and that caused water to pool. So I installed it at 2 inches as recommended, and the water no longer pools. I guess it needs the weight of the water that two inches provides for the flap to open and drain the water. I measured my drain and bought the appropriate size, so the fit and size are perfect. Regarding durability, I got this device some months ago, and I have not had any issues since. Totally recommend it.

**Q: will this work to keep water from coming up the drain in the basement when city systems can't handle it?**
A: Yes, I tested the silicone seal using a PVC tube and the Green Drain was able to hold back water up to 2.5' until it gave way to the water pressure. Without the center plug, a small amount of water drips through, but if a basement was flooding under 2.5' this would hold back the vast majority of water, preventing a lot of unnecessary water damage.

**Q: Can this be installed in clay tile?**
A: If you are referring to a clay tile pipe then yes as long a it is a tigjt fit as clay has a tendency to wear faster vs steel and could be slightly bigger than 4”.

**Q: If it's just pushed in, how does it keep its position, could it just fall straight down a 2" straight pipe and get stuck?**
A: Usually the 2 inch pipe is only a short pipe leading into a smaller pipe or a bend. If your drain is a straight 2 inch pipe the whole way down then this would not work for you. This drain is designed for showers or drains that should have a P Trap but don't.

**Q: What are the dimensions of the 2" unit?**
A: it fits in a standard sched. 40 2" PVC pipe. so slightly over 2"

I got this drain to keep odors in my shower at bay, and I am very happy with the results. No more odors. At first, I installed it only one inch deep, and that caused water to pool. So I installed it at 2 inches as recommended, and the water no longer pools. I guess it needs the weight of the water that two inches provides for the flap to open and drain the water. I measured my drain and bought the appropriate size, so the fit and size are perfect. Regarding durability, I got this device some months ago, and I have not had any issues since. Totally recommend it.

I think the bad reviews are for small drains. That said I’m using this in a 5” basement floor drain that goes straight into the sewer. My washer and utility sink drain into it, and it has no P Trap in the concrete floor. It smelled like the house sewer, stunk up the whole basement and house. Because of the immediate bend in the drain a Sureseal wouldn’t work. I popped this in and it’s been working for weeks without a problem. I’ve been very happy with it. I’ll probably buy a few spares, but it has been holding up to a house of 4 washing clothes, utility sink use, and a 3 Ton AC condensate drain line. It can handle a high flow of water, (like many many many gallons at a time) so I’m not sure what the negative reviews are about it draining slowly are about - probably bad plumbing and not the device itself.
