What free software can I use with this?

The vendors site includes free software for download. It is straightforward, Hex message CAN. Similar to a general purpose terminal software package for old-style serial communications. The site also links to canopenmagic.com who have CANOpen software packages, a layer higher that supports the CANOpen dictionary structure and EDS/DCF files. The CANOpen Magic packages are available in several different levels and all are available for two week free trial. If you need CANOpen, figure out what features you need and read the descriptions carefully. The are less-than-obvious pull down menus for the various levels. For my purposes the $1200 package did the trick. If you can live with manually querying the dictionary and hand building messages, you can get by for a couple of hundred. Of course, if you can get it done in two weeks. its free. The CANOpen Magic software utilizes active seat licensing/management, so you will need a live net connection each time you launch the application - even for the trial versions.
