Great for one person. Cooks oatmeal, kasha, lentils, hard boiled eggs, kale, potatoes, beets, you name it, in addition to perfect basmati rice and reheating. The cooking time is regulated by the amount of water added to the base--see attached cooking chart from another brand for approximate times. I add water and walk away, the food will never burn or stick as the base shuts off when the water is gone but stays warm until ready to eat. You have to become familiar with grain to water ratios. For example white basmati is one part water to one part rice, yet old fashioned or steel cut oats is more like 1 part oats to 2 parts water. Chopped kale (3 leaves) steams very well and at the same rate as rice or potatoes. Water does not need to be added to the ceramic cups to steam vegetables--water in the base unit is enough. The lids seem to be for storage and transportation. The numbered "dial" in the lid is a reminder for what day you need to use the food by. The button is for leak-free vacuum storage and transporting food without spilling it. I love how easy it is to steam a single serving of food and find myself enjoying more small portions throughout the day. Steaming vegetables is simple, motivating me to buy and consume more fresh produce. I was initially concerned about the plug/voltage, but it is set up for USA outlets. Ive seen cookbooks advertised on Amazon for these electric bento boxes which could expand the possibilities.

This is the neatest little rice steamer! Albiet a bit expens it is worth it for me because I don't like eating the inside coating of the rice cookers avaiable to us here in the US. These nice easy to clean ceramic tea cups are just a tiny bit over 2 cups each, perfect for up to two cups finished rice max per tea cup. I haven't found any English instructions or directions - so after a couple tries, guess work, it makes amazingly perfect rice! I use Uncle Bens Converted which needs a little more water than Jasmine or Basmati (I haven't tried them in here yet) 1 part to 2.5 parts water. The max I can use is 2/3c Uncle Ben's to 1 & 2/3c water. Rice fluffs up to just below the edge, leaving enough space to apply the ONLY FOR STORAGE lid, pop open the vent if you are storing hot rice. The water in the bottom needs to come up the outsides of the tea cups, to about an inch below the lip, or it will go dry and, yes, shut itself off. The tea cups are a nice size to hold and eat from, so making them 1/2 full of rice and topping with stir fry makes a perfect portable sunset watching late supper. I'm sure all kinds of other deliciousness can be made in this, please share your recipes. đđ

I needed a single rice cooker, the others were too big (my husband hates rice, I love it). This does the trick, and you can steam veggies in the second cup at the same time. Stylish look and easy to use and clean. My only complaint is that I soon broke one of the ceramic cups and could not communicate with the company or find a spare anywhere. I ended up spending a month of Sundays finding one on eBay.It was a new cooking ramen that fit, not an easy task. Also, instructions are only in Japanese so you need to look on YouTube to learn how to use it the first time. Still, I love it and recommend it.
