desertcart.com: The Real Mother Goose Board Book: 9780590003681: Scholastic, Wright, Blanche Fisher: Books Review: A Beautiful Blast of Nostalgia! - I absolutely love my Mother Goose book! The moment I opened it, I was transported straight back to childhood. The classic illustrations are just as charming and whimsical as I remember—bright, vintage, and full of character. It feels like holding a piece of history in your hands. The rhymes themselves are a perfect mix of familiar favorites and quirky little verses that are fun to rediscover. Some are sweet, some are a little silly, and all of them have that old-fashioned charm that makes this collection so special. It’s the kind of book you can enjoy reading aloud, whether for bedtime or just for a cozy moment of nostalgia. The quality of the printing and binding is excellent, too. It feels durable enough to pass down for years to come. If you grew up with this edition or just love beautifully illustrated classic children’s books, this is a must-have. I’m so glad I added it to my collection! Review: Love - Love the story!

A Must for Every Child and Parent to share with their child
Every child should own this fantastic book. Great gift for any kid or baby? I discovered when I substituted in primary grades that the majority of the kids did not know of these rhymes. Sad!

Nursery rhymes a plenty
Great collection of the classics! My only complaint is that there aren’t big illustrations to go with them or any colors in the pages.

Classic Children's Literature...and a little more difficult than remembered
My grandparents had this book when I was a child. I remember trying to read it on my own, but most of the rhymes made little sense to me. I vaguely remember Mother Goose, as a kid, being somewhat important to us. My grandmother knew a lot of nursery rhymes and we would sing them with her. I don't know if this kind of thing still goes on; do parents/grandparents still recite nursery rhymes with their children? Now, I have a child of my own. We finished reading it - I probably enjoyed it more than him. Mother Goose is antiquated; these nursery rhymes have very little to do with 21st century America. Many times as I read these I'm a little surprise how difficult they can be. Not only are some of them tongue twisters, but the words may have a different pronunciation, or there is a different cadence, or there is logic to modern English that is sometimes defied by these older stories. With that being said, reading these after several years of school, you see some of the history bubbling up. I would read my son a couple of the rhymes every night before bed. I would put him to bed, and then run over to Google and research a little about what such and such rhyme meant. I found them fascinating. As far as children's literature goes, Mother Goose is difficult. I took the slow and steady approach reading these. I would mix in some of the modern classics and then drop some nursery rhymes on him. He didn't seem to mind.

Love this book. Bought it originally years ago for my daughters who loved sitting on my lap, helping to select which rhymes they wanted to hear. Recently I purchased it again for my grand daughter. This book contains the original non disneyfied nursery rhymes and great illustrations!

I had this book as a child and am happy to have it again for my own children. The rhymes themselves are a bit old, dated, and a little inappropriate for today's standards, but there are a few good gems in there. I’d say this book is good for nostalgic or historical purposes for parents, but not quite the best choice if you're looking for bedtime rhymes for children. Reading some of them will probably leave the children and yourself scratching your heads.
