## Description

2016 LIMITED 180 GRAM VINYL : 2nd album from 1970. The shape of things to come.

Review: "THE ROOTS OF HARD ROCK" - PARANOID (1970) In this album Black Sabbath take their trademarked heavy sound and refine it. "LIKE A STEEL BLADE", they sharpened the edge and used it to lay waste to everything before them. LYRICS: The subject matter of the album was typically DARK, delving into topics such as supernatural horror, drug use, nuclear war and death which suited the band's bleak, minor-key sound and served to be inwardly terrifying for it's listener THE SOUND: Paranoid refined Black Sabbath's signature sound -- crushingly loud, minor-key dirges loosely based on HEAVY BLUES ROCK -- and applied it to a newly consistent set of songs with utterly memorable riffs, most of which now rank as all-time metal classics.I mean, this was apparently recorded in 1970, and since I am a big fan of old hard rock music, I can say that no one had production this guitar-accented. THE TRACKS: War Pigs: A seven and a half minute monster. The opening riff it's amazingly atmospheric while containing what I consider nearly a perfect melody. A gloomy overture introducing Iommi's guitar tone and some of the best riffs on the album Paranoid: This a KILLER song whit galloping-speed, That starting gun of a riff, fading into the maddeningly sing-songy melody is the stuff of metal legend. Gotta love that bubbly bass tone and behaved drumming, plus one of Iommi's more fun lead breaks. Planet Caravan: Is an obviously substance-inspired trip through time and space. Featuring some of the trippiest sounding vocals and an interesting percussion section using bongos, piano, a slower tempo, a quieter mix, and Iommi's constant guitar riff, the song is very calming compared to the rest on this album. Iron Man: The best CUT of the album, the first riff is one of the most simple but amazing in the metal music. Tony Iommi's awesome guitar vocabulary part throughout, Bill Ward's pulverising drums. The lyrics is about a demonic Iron Man that seeks vengence on the people by killing them Electric Funeral: Creates the most forbidden atmosphere of any song on this album. Iommi's whining riff begins the song with a creepy tone introducing Osbourne's voice. This song, concerning nuclear warfare, is definitely a classic. Hand of Doom: Is another HAUNTING song, quiet guitar and bass lines that they awaken the listener to the reality of the results of substance abuse. The lyrics are superb descriptions of doom and death, pain and suffering, addiction and disillusion, and really show where the influences for so many musicians came from. Rat Salad: Is an interesting instrumental. Showcasing the abilities of both Iommi and Bill Ward, the instrumental has both a BLUESY and a modern (1970s) rock feel.HEAVY RIFFS Fairies Wear Boots: A lumbering stoner metal classic, the final gem on an album full of them. The lyrics are hilarious, either as a 'harrowing' tale of the stoner who cried wolf(or fairy in this case), or as a biting send-up of the English skinhead movement.
Review: Best Ozzie music! - Best album ever, for my 26 yr old dtr. It was my favorite and Im 70!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Well done mastering

Buying vinyl these days is quite risky, there are a lot of re-releases that are just copies from the original press, if it was good or not. Some re-presses are just plain bad. Some google searching will point you to a lot of good information on which presses of specific albums are best. Some albums have several different presses, so it does matter. This 2016 release is pretty good. I compared it to my original 1971 album. The old copy has had some heavy use/abuse on some heavy and cheap needles, so it's not the best base-line, but I've listened to it enough times to have a fairly good opinion on how the 2016 release sounds compared to it. Overall, I think the 2016 release just sounds cleaner and has much better mixing. If the original tapes are still good, modern mixing equipment, combined with talented engineers, can really show how much recording technology has improved in the last 50 years. AND how good the original master tape recordings are.
