AWESOME SO FAR - YES it IS BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE (Original XBOX Games)
I restored partition 2, and just played 2 original XBOX games, so yes, it doesn't have backwards compatibility UNTIL you restore partition 2 - Don't be lazy! Do the research! This info is easily found on the internet. Thanks to the "transfer cable" supplied, I didn't even have to crack the case! Normally you would take the hard drive out of the case to use a USB to SATA cable, to connect to your computer, and restore the partition 2 (that's where the original XBOX emulator software is).Had it for 10 minutes, restored the partition, copied saved games to an external hard drive, downloaded my game add on's, and profile,Install games, Done! Works great! will update as time goes on!

Unformatted Hard Drive Requires a Separate Purchase of a Data Transfer Cable
I purchased the 500 gb hard drive thinking it would be ready to go straight out of the box. Short answer: no.When I opened the box there were three cards along with the hard drive. The first card mentions information about the company, and that before I open the item, I need to visit their website for installation instructions. I visit their website, only to see a note that says the "store is currently unavailable due to maintenance. It should be available again shortly." Based on how the note looks, I'm not sure if they are actually doing maintenance, or if they're instead permanently closed. I look for some videos from this company on YouTube but I don't find any. I found a video from a different user, followed the instructions in one of their videos, turned on my Xbox 360, and was greeted with a single red ring. This brings me to the second note in the box. The second note explains the E68 error, which is what I currently have. The note gives three different ways to resolve the error. I suspect that my error is due to the hard drive not being formatted, which is a problem. In order to format the hard drive I need to purchase a data transfer cable. In the Q and A section on here some people said they received a cable, and some have not. I'm not sure why it's sporadic. Had I known I would have needed to format the hard drive and buy a cable, I wouldn't have purchased this hard drive. I took a gamble and lost. It is what it is. After I purchased a cable, I was finally able to format and install the hard drive.
