Tactical Chucks at last.
So I love Chuck Taylors. I wear red high tops every day. However, I work in an office and the shoes are good for sitting and periodic standing. Anything more and my feet need more support. I always wanted Converse to make tactical chucks, but the closest I was able to get were Converse combat boots. Apparently the guys at Altama had seen the pictures of Special Forces soldiers in Vietnam sporting Chucks, ranger panties, and an XM177 carbine. Or perhaps they realized that Chucks are still in use as approach shoes and lightweight sneakers when combat boots might raise suspicions. While Nike hinted at more hardcore Chucks at the end of last year, they do not hold a candle to these suckers. Most of the stuff you can see from the pictures, but here's some highlights I liked. 1. The outsoles are made of the same plastic that my climbing shoes are, and are grippy even when wet. 2. The design flaws seen on original chucks have been remedied. The banding around the outsole and upper have been sewn on to prevent premature separation. They have also cut the banding at the flex point to prevent the typical tearing (although it is supposedly actually to allow your foot to push water out of the shoe. So how do the shoes perform? Pretty good. They are light. They have more padding on the tongue and upper than chucks; something I'm not the biggest fan of, but helps. They do well in the water, and they do in fact work well with fins. I'm no high speed low drag UTD diver, but I do like the idea of a shoe that I can wear into the water, slap fins on, and then walk out of the water later. No need to stop and take off wet suit boots after a dive, you just walk ashore and keep going like a boss. The cut on the back of the high tops allow for full flex of the ankle with fins on. They worked well in my dive and I didn't have to change shoes at all that day. Good to finally see tactical Chuck Taylors. Would highly recommend.

Overall a Great Shoe
I ordered the all Black size 11 high tops, and right away I loved the look, and after a brief period of breaking them in +/- about a week or 2, maybe a little more, they feel great! I would / will order them again, as I like them a lot. Yeah they are a little bit expensive. But if after a year theyre still holding up to how I rough up and wear out sneakers, I will will consider it worth it. They definitely have a Great non-slip sole, and even non-slip insoles, so your feet do not slip around while wearing them (for if you went swimming in them, since that's what they're designed for it makes sense to have a non slip insole). Now at first I thought the toe box was going to be a little too tight, and for a week it seemed that way, and sadly considered returning them to exchange for the wide size, but I had already wore them outside, and figured I'd just deal with it. And I'm glad I kept this size and width, because now they're not tight at all. They fit perfectly, and as you continue to wear them, the full covered rubberized toe guard breaks in and softens up nicely, just give it time. If after 3 weeks or a month they still feel tight well then, maybe you needed the wide version. I plan to buy other colors and styles. Altama might just be my new go to brand for rugged sneakers.

6 month update
6 month update, still love them great on most surfaces, I have noticed on wet concrete the traction is still there and seems to get a little better. It's not a slip and slide mess. I added a few more pictures some of the stitching is coming up but I have not noticed an issue because of it. There is no glue separation from the toe rubber to the edge of the shoe. I think based on my neutral stance / interview stance the tread is wearing a little different on my drive brace leg side. I have ran in these, hiked in these in tough mountain terrain with lava rock, I've walked in rivers and along lakes on wet river rock no slip, they dry fast and I was a little hesitant that I would feel sharper rocks on the souls but I dont. I actually stepped on a roofing nail and dont know how long it was in the soul that day until I heard a clicking sound on the asphalt. I honestly do like them. I feel moble and agile in them. I like these boot shoes and they are holding up. So far 4 folks on my squad have switched to them as well. They are a true fit to size. First impression review. I just got off duty. I did alot of walking around today. Today I worked 13 hours but I had boots on for 15 of those house. I got home and my new Altama's were waiting at the door for me. I pulled them out of the box, looked at the stitching and then looked where the toe rubber connects to the cloth. It all seems real stout. Next I pulled the tissue from the shoes took my boots off. Which felt good in the first place. I tossed the new Altamas up in the air a few times, highly impressed with how light they are. I sat down on the couch and put them on. I was beside myself how COMFORTABLE they were after a 13 hour work day and a 15 hour day of wearing boots. I happily walked around and sent some of the guys on my squad a picture, stating they are finally here and I love them. They are truly comfortable. I'm impressed. Let's see if I can figure out how to do a review here in a few weeks and then again in a few months. If I like them I'm gonna talk my wife into letting me buy two more pairs. I want the multi cam for hiking around the woods at my cabin and if I can talk my SRT, team leader into the coyote I'll get one of those for wearing on the team. So far so good but mind you I've only been I possession of them for for 2 hours. Send me questions if you have them and I will update you. I ordered 9.5W because that's what I wear and they fit perfectly. Order to size.

Light weight and seem to be very functional, for running, lifting, or just comfy errand shoes
Awesome look great. Feel light. They run small or tight due to them being highly functional shoes. Im a 9.5 in other shoes/hey dudes. Altama I may be a 10.5. Not sure contacted seller to purchase other pair to find correct size. Or maybe I just need a wide. Stay tuned.
