Very shiny! They are smaller, about 10 inches. Made of very lightweight plastic. We have lots of robins getting into the drain and poooo’ing all over. These are to distract the birds! Results: Birds are not frightened by these-spinning or still! The literally are landing on the gutter right above the spinner and it doesn’t bother them. :-( UPDATE-The seller contacted me following this review and kindly offered to refund my money. I truly appreciate their customer service!

While it does not prevent all birds leaving poop on our dock, it has cut down and better than owls with moving head or ultrasonic devices.

I bought these to keep the birds away from my car and they work great (so far) I will be ordering more because I like the way the twirl and sparkle in the sun so I will be decorating my garden next.

The string it comes with is cheap, all mine broke within 2 months.

I tied these on twine and strung them around my chicken coop to detour an Eagle that is getting my chickens. Seems to be working.

Placed these at the corners of my house where woodpeckers are destroying my wood soffit. Patched my holes and put these up. They spin nicely if hung properly. THESE FAILED TO DO THEIR JOB. The Downy woodpeckers almost push them out of the way to continue making holes. THESE ABSOLUTELY MADE NO DIFFERENCE AND DID NOT WORK FOR ME.

I have two young willow trees that a Yellow-bellied sapsucker is destroying. I've tried tree wrap, but the dang bird will just keep moving higher or go out to a further branch. Bird ended up killing a leader branch, so I decided to give up and take off the wrap to allow him to feed on the main trunk which the tree was able to handle. Still frustrated, I did some research and many people recommend these. I was a little apprehensive as it seemed too good to be true. So I purchased a set. Hung 4 or 5 in each tree. A couple by the base, a couple in the middle, and one as far up as I could go. I made sure they were free to spin in the wind. When I was done, not even 10 minutes later, I see the devil. He swooped in and was spooked. He hovered in mid air, almost like a hummingbird for several seconds. Then perched on a branch. After a few more seconds, he flew away. I have yet to see him return. I'll report back after a few more weeks to see if there is any further damage to the tree. I'm surprised sapsuckers are a protected species. They are so damaging to trees.

When these arrived, I realized I had purchased and used the very same product before. I bought them again, because they do seem to deter crows. The problem, however, is this item is made extremely cheaply. The super thin stretchy string that comes attached to the deterrent hang breaks VERY quickly when exposed to the elements outside. And when the cheap string breaks, the brittle plastic spinner will break into pieces if it lands on concrete. Like other reviewers have indicated, I truly do not understand why that string material was used, other than for cost savings. I have had many, many of these items fall to the ground within weeks of installation. If they did not break after the fall, I would rehang using my own string and/or small cable ties. So before I install this new batch, I will remove those strings, and use my own material with which to hang these. My one other comment is that the cheap silver reflective material will dull/develop a haze somewhat in less than a year. But since these items are inexpensive and seem to actually work, I guess they are good enough. Two stars because I should not have to replace the string on them when they are brand new.

Product arrived in 2 days. Very happy with results of keeping birds from flying into windows.

We have a lovely tree over our dock. Unfortunately, the birds lodge in it and poo all over my boat and dock. I put these up. Problem solved!
