Useless.
The blade curve radius and sharpening chamfers make it useless. When held in your hand, you cannot physically push/cut into the surface.I hoped it would cut hollows on flat wood, or smooth a concave boat hull - wrong on both counts.I can free carve with a flat bevelled chisel, both ways up, but not with this.Tried sharpening the other blade face, wasting 1cm of blade - still useless.I am not sure what you could carve with it, but certainly not for producing relief on a flat board. It is now a very sturdy/quality alloy/expensive crowbar !

I think Faithful are letting themselves down a bit with this gouge as it requires so much grinding and sharpening to get into shape and the Faithful tools are usually really good - this would not be suitable for a complete beginner, but is fine if you have the grinding and sharpening tools to bring it round.

Needs sharpened before first use
Arrived with no edge on it. Metal seems good enough to sharpen tho, so not for a beginner, but a good way to learn to sharpen tools!
