This title is not merely an inspirational book, and certainly is not pop-psychology. Maxwell's latest work (actually previously released in 1997 with different titleing - now with minor revisions) is by far the BEST work I have ever read in the area of personal development. In it, Maxwell lays out the foundation for understanding true success - essentially: Knowing Your Purpose, Developing Your Maximim Potential (which comes from the former), and Sowing Mentoring Seeds In Others.Each of these sections is well written and makes a strong, as well as compelling case for personal change and lifelong development (regardless of age). Maxwell clearly articulates the often difficult challenges to personal development and provides practical suggestions for overcoming them. The reader cannot, in good conscience, go from one chapter to the next without applying what has been learned. Maxwell asks you to sign the end of one of the early chapters, committing the reader to a life of excellence! Each subsequent chapter has more interesting yet simple exercises to work thru, helping to ensure the readers interaction and active learning.Some major themes include: The true meaning of success, keys to defining your purpose, fulfilling your purpose practically, attitude as key to success, how to develop and maintain a good attitude, how to weather detours on the success journey, and much, much more. This book changed my life! Buy one for yourself and a few copies for those you care about who have the slightest capacity for greatness... this book will surely help facilitate their next level. John Maxwell wrote a timely book on how to plan your life. No detail was left unturned in this book. John helps you define your purpose, where do you want to go, how far can you go, how do you get there from here! Then he helps you see your full potential by asking simple questions: What should you pack for your journey, how to handle detours, are you there yet. He than introduces the concept of helping others get to their dreams in route to your dreams. Is it a family trip, who else should be on the journey, and what should you do along the way! John than beautifully ties a bow on the book by asking what you like best about the trip.This is a great book for planning the rest of your life. Again, I buy it by the case and give to everyone involved in any type of business! My way of helping others grow as I grow myself. A must read!

This practical self-help book contains several well-proven techniques for achieving success in anyone's career and personal life. Most of the advice in this book is similar to what you'd find in similar books (e.g., set goals, do the right thing even if it's hard, keep a positive attitude, don't be afraid of failure, view mistakes as a learning opportunity rather than a failure, be persistent, etc.), but each tip is backed up with an inspiring story and/or interesting quote to drive home the point.For example, here are a few of the sage quotes included in this book:"When you win, nothing hurts." - Joe Namath"It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference." - Tom Brokaw"I have yet to find the man, however exalted his station, who did not do better work and put forth greater effort under a spirit of approval rather than a spirit of criticism." - Charles SchwabOverall, I enjoyed this book and found the advice to be helpful and practical. The only negative I can think of is that most of the tips are common sense and/or already contained in similar books I've read over the years. Regardless, it's always good to get a reminder and also to draw some inspiration from the success stories contained in this book. For that reason, I give it two thumbs up!
