I thought the curve in the veneer would cause it to lift while the glue was still hot, but it didn't. After allowing it to cool, I lightly sanded it, then stained it to match. It took a couple passes with the stain to get it dark enough, but the end result was a pretty damned good match. I masked it off and sprayed a Varithane semi-gloss over th top, and it was done. That being said the grain of oak is fairly discernible even after sanding and painting (which is fine if you are matching painted oak). If you expect a smooth finish I suggest selecting a birch product which has much less graining. **Q: Should the paper back be removed prior to applying adhesive?** A: No absolutely not..the backing is there too provide stability and integrity to the thin layer of wood.
