This duvet has satisfied that need and met all expectations. I chose this particular duvet because of the ability to add a twin size extra on one side only - as my wife and I have different tolerances. But I ordered only a single, King size duvet to try it first. This fits perfectly on our Queen bed, allowing sufficient overhang on sides and the end of the bed - no tucking necessary (and no foot compression either!) and no one is uncovered unexpectedly. Upon unpacking, the duvet seemed very thin and light. I washed and dried it according to recommendations (yes, it is machine washable!) and inserted it in a 600ct Egyptian cotton cover. If fluffed up marvelously and is, by itself, both light and warm - I'll not need the twin extra. Per my wife, the cover of the duvet itself is a bit "crinkly", but I'm certain this will settle with repeated washings. Love it. I have tried different materials (synthetic just doesn't do it for me - it doesn't breathe like the down) and different fills. This is the perfect cover. It is definitely summer weight, but it still keeps you warm. It's a touch thicker than a blanket, but offers much more warmth than you'd get from a blanket. The snap system to add another on top of the whole cover or just half the cover is genius. You really can make your summer weight a winter weight in a matter of minutes (you have to buy another, obviously). And the fact that if I need to I can have a winter weight side and a summer weight side is awesome.I washed and dried this and it was very easy - it didn't bang around in the washer and it dried rather quickly for its size. When it arrived there were no odors or feathers poking out - and after the wash and dry the same is true.As another reviewer mentioned, the outer material is a little "noisy" but after the wash it improved significantly. I wouldn't have even noticed it pre wash if I wasn't listening for it. But I thought I would mention it because some might be sensitive to that sort of thing.For me this is the perfect cover - I just bought two twin size (make sure the cover you get is for a twin XL because it's longer than an average twin) for my kids. The package contains 1 of the down comforters. Which is a summer weight. It appears to be a very lightweight twin size, summer weight, down comforter. A descent quality. I feel the price is way to high for the 1 part of the system. If it had contained both parts I would have given it 5 stars.So my dilemma is paying $200. for a twin size winter weight down comforter. I haven't decided quite what to do yet... as I browse through Amazon I can purchase 2 summer weight comforters for about $100. I can easily install the snaps as I have the equipment to do so.... or just buy a winter weight comforter. I love the idea of this sleep system, but I think the price is outrageous & the ad misleading.
