Cleaning the litter is easy, just lift it, put the lid on and put it in a bin bag. The problem is cleaning the mechanism that moves the poo. We’ve also had issue with our kitten (who’s actually 3 now) pressing the button, pooping behind the rake as it’s clearing the litter and watching he freshly laid poop get smooshed up the side as the rake returns. Getting a lid resolved this for us and left us with a slightly less entertained cat. Apart from that our cats are happy with it. Review: Waste of Money - This item was a waste of money. The blurb claims it can be used by one cat for up to a month before needing a change of crystals. It smelt even after just a few days of my cat using it. That is because due to its bad design the waste sitting in an area at bottom of the tray is not fully sealed causing the smell to spread throughout the house. The rake has to be manually operated a number of times because it does not fully turn over the crystals to allow them to dry. You have to use a scoop in order to completely turn it over to dry which rather defeats the object of the electrical rake. Please don’t waste your money on this product. The litter features a counter which will show you the number of times it has been used. We normally change ours when it reaches 30. It is very good indeed but the refills are expensive. Better to buy a reuseable tray and use silicon crystals (we use 'Tigerino' from Zooplus) This will bring down the cost hugely. **Q: I have a Maine Coon, does anyone have experience of using this with a larger cat? She currently uses the catit box** A: This is actually a very big spacious litter tray. I have a Maine Coon too- a girl, so not as long as a boy. She puts her little paws on the front tray when she does her poos. She loves it! She likes watching it self clean and tidy away after. My tip is to set the scraper to the 20 mins option, so the poo is not as ‘wet’ and it clears away better then. Cannot recommend this system more highly- I barely touch it- once every three weeks only! **Q: My cat buries her poo which leaves the litter piled up in places and not level, how good is this at re-leveling the litter.** A: Amazing! It completely flattens it out each time! Our litter is Amorphous Silica gel and is not to be confused with Crystalline Silica. Amorphous Silica is an organic product. It is non-toxic and perfectly safe for human and animal consumption. Silica gel is an inert substance that's mined from the earth, also known as quartz a naturally occurring mineral in nature. The tray itself is made just of cardboard so over time it will decompose. I am throwing mine away as I obviously can’t sent it back as it has been used. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works well but expensive *by A***R on 1 September 2025* These are great self scooping systems, theyre large but don't take up as much space as a robot litter tray and save you scooping every day, which was the main selling piunt. However the overall cost adds up very quickly and they can be a little noisy but easy enough to get used to, we keep one in the bedroom and it doesn't wake us up. The disposable litter trays are hard to get hold of and extortionately expensive, we bought a metal reusable tray for each of ours but they cost an absolute fortune, just to get the correct measurements to fit, after trying anywhere to find one the right size of a cheaper version. Have tried a few litters with it too and the petsafe crystal litter is the best one for odour, noise and tracking, other crystal litter can be very noisy with it as the particles are often larger the grill scrapes it along the bottom of the tray. Though we did try a crystal litter that was like sand that was almost silent, it just tracked like crazy on the cats paws and was EVERYWHERE.
