The art of storytelling is often abused, frequently poorly understood, but when executed well yields a story that flows well and is pleasurable to read.Drew Magary matches characters who mirror the everyman's insecurities with the self-determining hero we all aspire to (unless you're one of those wretches that ends a sentence with a preposition...). His narrative is well crafted, linking grand odyssey with the tropes of modern cinema all the while keeping the reader engaged. It's not necessarily the Most Brilliant Story Ever, Man, but it's a quality story that explores the frailty and resilience of the human condition.Certainly worth a read.

A friend posted an article by Drew Magary on his Facebook, I forget which one now, and it was laugh out loud funny. I'd been wanting something lightweight, funny, and entertaining, and noticed at the bottom of the article that Drew had authored two books. So I will say that parts of the book were a bit clunky. However, it was a light and easy read, it did make me laugh, and it was imaginative and detailed in a way that truly conjured a vibrant scene in one's mind; that is what really made this book stick out for me and impressed me. Drew was able to paint some scenes in a way that created a real emotional connection and reminded me of the great imagination I had as a kid. This book is the perfect antidote to being in a not-reading rut and I would definitely recommend it. Its fun, fast-moving, and imaginative, and has a great twist at the very end.

Abgefahrene Story, gute Spannungsbögen, sehr kurzweilig, überraschende Auflösungen. Sicherlich keine buchgewordene Hochkultur, aber wer schwere Kost sucht würde so einen Roman ohnehin nicht in die Hand nehmen. Ich fands super!
