The MacBook Air will use the USB-C to USB-A cable and it will work fine. Remember that USB-C in this case is only a connector type on the drive but the drive is USB 3. The USB-C connector on the latest Macs and the best PCs are actually Thunderbolt 3 which easily support a USB 3 drive like this one.
