Essential Dutch Dictionary

Met expectations. Just what I wanted and more. A very comprehensive dictionary and emphasis on certain colliquillisms of the Country/Language to keep one informed and familiar with certain areas of this fascinating language.

This is basically a dictionary of Dutch-English and English-Dutch. It has the most commonly used terms in the dutch language and it is fairly easy to use. It also comes with tips and small notes regarding the similarities and differences between the two languages and also small bits of interesting information regarding the Dutch. A good aid to all who wish to study Dutch.

This dictionary is perfect for simple translation. It has whether the words are "de" or "het" and the dutch text is in bold with the English translation in normal text next to it. It has a brief section at the front explaining adjectives, verbs and spelling. It also has "insight" captions that explain in more detail about certain words or how the word is used. Very helpful, especially for a beginner.

We had an earlier edition of this book but constant use (and coffee stains) had taken its toll. This later edition is even better than the old one by including boxes labelled as "Insight", containing more detailed explanations for difficult to understand words.

I did not speak Dutch but was soon translating words with this handy dictionary. Native speakers also used it with me and they were complimentary about it, give it a try.
