Hi, 49-3/8"L, 3-5/8"D inside, 3-7/8"D outside.

How difficult is assembly?

The hardest part for me was figuring out what all the little images were trying to depict. The image showed the orientation of the wheels as what looked to be sideways, but they go on vertically. :-) Also, fill the water/sand bowl with sand, but not water (and drill out the little hole under the cap) before assembling it to the bottom plate. Then when assembly is complete, lean the entire heater over to the side and fill with water. I made the mistake of adding the sand and the water at the beginning and was dealing with sandy water leaking out every time I had to tilt the structure during assembly.

Has anybody tried to put a bigger top hood on it ?

Nina: I purchased and assembled 4 of these. You could probably get some stainless steel sheet metal, drill 4 holes in the same place, and install a larger hood. But I think that doing so would throw off the aesthetics.
