Very good. Drill all the holes.
I received it rather quickly. It fit perfectly. It was really easy to install. It took less than five minutes. Just like everybody else in their review said. It did smell strongly or ever like a tire, but the joke’s on you, I’m into that! I like how it smells. And after about two or three days sitting on my desk, I don’t smell it anymore. I saw some people have been worried to drill out some of the holes, but I drilled out all the holes. I had no problems. It’s not gonna bother the screws inside. The screws are still safely below, Benny, out of the way of the holes that you wanna drill out. So I drilled out all the holes. And I’m in the Stone Age without a functioning electric drill so I did it by hand with the drill, bits in my hand. And it hurt. But I did it. And use of a X-Acto knife is helpful. And I used pliers to pull out the rubber boogers. It was hard. I did it. If you have a functioning drill with a call that can hold larger than a 8th inch unlike me, i’m sure you’ll have an easier time. But that’s on me. The product is great. There is an air gap between the wood, and the beginning of the rubber butt stock. For all I know that’s a benefit because it’s a spring laden air gap that will have to be compressed resulting in more shock absorption in a similar way as the holes. I can probably shim and shove some foam in there. After I got it installed, and drilled out the holes, I shoved a recoil reducing slip-on sock over it. it barely fit, but in the end it did fit very snugly. It was hard. I had to use pliers to pull that thing over this and the wood. It was tight. But that’s good because it’s not going to be slipping and sliding or falling off I think. So not only am I using the rubber butt pad. I’m also using a slip over recoil reduction sock and it feels kind of like jelly, like a stress reducing ball. I have not used this at a range since I installed it and I have no idea what it’s going to feel like. But I’m sure my shoulder will thank me.

Shoulder Saver !
This butt pad fit fairly well on my Mosin Nagant M91/30. As some other people have stated in their reviews, it does have a funk smell to it and the rubber is kinda hard. Both of these factors are not really detrimental to the product. First you have to consider that this piece was shipped all the way from China and it is made out of rubber, so you can expect it to have some sort of "odor" to it. As for the stiffness of the rubber itself, you can just drill through the holes that are on the sides to make them connect. This was recommended by a previous reviewer, and by doing this it will give you some flex in the rubber and make it a bit softer when shooting. I did this to mine with a 3/8 drill bit and it worked great. The only hole that I did not drill is the one that comes close to where the screw hole passes through from the back of the butt pad. All the other holes got drilled out. For $10, this is a good product that works great and does what it is supposed to.

Mosin Nagant Recoil Pad, a must have.
Hello all, this recoil pad is a defined must have. The Mosin Nagant 7.62 X 54r round has a felt recoil of a O/U 12g shot gun with no recoil pad. So after 10-20 shot you shoulder will go numb. The pros: -Installs in 5 min, 2 screws. -Has a overall good "general" fit to my Mosin 91/30. I did have to bend mine a bit to make it fit the curvature of the rear stack but no big. -Adds about 1 to 1.5 inch to the length of pull, and that is a bonus since I found the stock to be a bit on the short side. -It is made of semi hard rubber so it should last a long time, only time will tell. - Reduces felt recoil, my 16 year old niece can now shoot it with out issue (at a rest, its to heavy for her to hold standing). The Cons: -The rubber pad will stick to your cloths, I had to taped the sides of the pad to fix this. -The fit is not exact. My pad seem to stick out both sides and the top of the stock about 1/16 or so on each side. And about 1/8 inch at the top. Not to much but it does cause the top to grab when I go to solder the gun. I find myself having to push the gun out then shoulder it. Over all I would say this is the best "mod" you can do to this rifle for the price. Made my rifle more enjoyable to shoot, and definitely allows female shooter to join in. *Note: on the seller of this product. I have did/do have an issue with the seller, I have taken this up with Amazon. But the product is great. I had ordered a new sling, well attempting to reach the seller is virtual impossible. I tried for 4 day. I have tried via Amazon nothing, I have tried via their web site(contact us) section, still no response. I did find a number and after holding for about an hour, I was told that the sling it in actuality on back order. Even though it shows to be in stock. Note: the "leave a message option will disconnect you from the system Even better, the agent I spoke with was unable to tell me when they would be getting more in. Or when they would be placing an order to get more from their supplier. Thus I may not revive my sling (and you wont/may not get yours ether). Your mileage may vary but you can count on a very difficult time getting a hold of the customer service if anything goes wrong.

Very Satisfied
Fit my original m91 with original screws nearly perfectly. In the image the only modification made was me loosely drilling out the holes for some more sponginess, and I will be cleaning them up a bit. I was going to boil the rubber and soak it in oil to loosen it up, but after shouldering the gun in this state, decided that was not necessary. A noticeable improvement in comfort and extremely easy to install. The only downside is the strong tireshop smell, but it is a solid chunk of rubber so that should be expected.

Great recoil pad, try this modification...
I bought this pad for a 1942 Mosin Nagant 91/30, and it was super easy to install and looks about as good as an aftermarket recoil pad can. I simply removed the steel butt plate and installed this recoil pad using the original screws, it took all of 2 minutes. However, other reviewers have stated that this pad is too hard to really absorb the recoil, while others found it acceptable. After inspecting it, I saw the pad has 6 holes on each side of the recoil pad, but they do not go all the way through. This leaves a solid rubber spine down the middle of the pad. So using a drill and bit that matched the hole size, I drilled 4 of the 6 holes all the way through. The only reason I didn't drill all 6 was because one of the holes near the bottom is also where the screw that holds the pad on goes through, which means if I messed up and removed too much rubber it could possibly break loose. Not wanting to risk that I left that hole undrilled, and in the interest of aesthetics I left one near the top undrilled so it would look uniform. I took the rifle out today, and I can honestly say the recoil pad performed very well. Say what you will, but I was in pain after just a few rounds from this rifle before; I shot several rounds from this pad today and now it's just a nice push instead of a sharp kick. I did not fire the rifle with the recoil pad BEFORE drilling it, so I'm not sure how much my modification helped, but I think from simply pushing on it with my hands it definitely is absorbing more energy. It only takes a few minutes to drill the holes out, just have a nice place to do it since all the hard rubber bit make quite the mess. I included a few (bad) pics above so you can see what I did. Hopefully this will work for you as well, and make shooting this wonderful rifle a pain-free joy again :)

Great product.
I have come to call my mosin nagant "The shoulder buster" and for good reason. Usually 20 rounds leaves me black and blue for a week after shooting it so I knew I needed some padding. First off the install was a breeze, 2 screws and your done. The instructions made me laugh a bit when it suggested using my hands to bend the rubber butt pad. This thing is pretty thick and solid rubber there's no way I could bend it any noticeable amount. I did place one end on the floor and used some leverage to bend it just enough. I haven't been able to shoot with it yet so I can't comment on the actual main function. It does add length and feels a little more comfortable holding it now. The butt pad fit pretty well on my rifle, it certainly isn't 100% though. Knowing how old and how quick they must have pumped these rifles out they are all not going to be a direct copy of each other. The small differences across these rifles would make it impossible to get a perfect match for an add on part. That being said the fitment issues are very minor and could be solved by sanding or trimming the rubber pad a little bit. The fitment wasn't enough for me to knock a star off however, that's how minor it is.

Decent. Fits and works. But omg does it stink...
Ok, I'm torn on this one. Let's break it down: Cons: - HOLY GOD THE SMELL. Seriously how are more people not complaining about this?! Believe me, being an American with internet access I've ordered my fair share of crap that showed up straight from China smelling like cheap toxic plastic, but DAMN, this one takes the cake. I'm honestly concerned I got cancer the second I opened it, because it smells like pure cancer. - Not the best quality. Uneven texture of the rubber (see pics). - Holes not drilled through. I drilled mine out like many reviewers before me, and it seems the piece should just come that way from the factory. FYI you can drill all six and not cause any issues. Pros: - It fits pretty well. Some people complained that this was a generic butt pad, but it's not. The hole placement and shape are clearly designed for a Mosin. Given that these rifles were manufactured by the millions in dozens of different factories, I would blame any fitment issues on the gun, not the pad. That said, mine does leave a slight gap at the top (see pic), and because I'm OCD, this bugged me. I figured since I had the drill out already, I'd just oval out the hole for the top screw do I could get it more snug, but it's not just rubber up there, you've got the metal plate to contend with too. It probably isn't enough of an issue for anyone else to care about, but I kept at it until it was tight, because I'm a crazy person. - It was only $10. Bottom line: it's a decent value for the money. Personally, I would happily pay twice as much if it was higher quality and didn't make my entire house a hazardous waste area when I opened the box, because did I mention THAT GOD-FORSAKEN SMELL?!

Dont listen to the whinners...
Ignore all the whiners saying Stupid things about this product! My 15 year old daughter became sick of her 22 rifle and wanted to "Woman-Up" to a REAL fire arm... She fires my .30-30 with little trouble. After watching a friend's 14 year old son shoot 25 holes in a half inch pipe at 50 yards, and then learning about the 22 cent per shot ammo. My daughter and I researched and bought a Mosin at a gun show the same day she graduated her hunter safety course. My daughter is pretty tough, but We were DEEPLY concerned about the Mosin's 308 level, killer kick freaking her out and causing her to become fearful of, or reject this weapon. So I purchased this Recoil Butt Pad. I also read all the reviews before I made the purchase, hoping it was as good as some said it was... I also read how some folks used drills to clear out the holes in the recoil but bad to increase its efficiency. I completed the drill idea. I fired our Mosin for the first time this weekend with this "drilled out" product installed. There was no "kick" at all, but rather a stout "shove" that was just a little more than HALF the "kick" of my .30-30! Amazing! My first reaction was "HEEEEEY! This butt pad ROCKS!" I loaded 1 round and called my daughter over to fire her rifle for the first time. She winched, and squirmed, and whined about her "fear" of the Mosin's kick! It took FOREVER... But when she finally pulled the stupid trigger, her reaction was pure surprise and embarrassment, "Whoah! What the heck was I afraid of...I feel like such a baby! Give me more bullets dad!" BTW: the this product does not "smell" either... I don't know who the sissy wimps are out there that complained about this product but don't listen to them, they are clearly idiots. This product is EVERYTHING and MORE than the best reviews have said about it... If your Mosin is kicking the snott out of you, buy this, drill it out, and you will find that even your Kids can fire it!
