Works as designed
Cars still use hog rings on seats so I had to buy this pair. Easy to use, they are kinda tight on first use but get easier over time. Definitely a good purchase.

Works well--right tool
Well-made pliers--used them to re-cover some car seats. Would not have wanted to try that without the correct tool (this one). Spring action holds the ring in place while you position the flaming seat cover and the retaining rods in the cushion. Two-beer job at least, but once you get the ring hooked and squeeze you know it's done right. Also: use new rings--they're cheap.

Good for occasional DIY use
I purchased these to reupholster the front seats of my classic car. They worked well enough for doing the job one time, but if I needed to use hog ring pliers on a long-term basis, I'd probably pony up more money and buy nicer ones. They are plenty sturdy, but my primary criticism of them as that eventually during use the jaws started allowing the hog rings to rotate 90-degrees while clamping down, so I'd have to cut the hog ring off and try again. Toward the end, this was happening between 1/3 to 1/2 of the time. So would I buy these again? For the low price and given that I only needed them for a single project, yes.

Worth the money
Gets the job done

Nice job ION.
I checked the reviews of the various pliers and noticed a number of complaints about vinyl handles sliding off. These pliers have foam covered handles formed and adhered around the metal which eliminates the problem. They work well, hold the rings properly and are sturdily built. Nice job ION.

Disposable tool
Purchased this to set hog rings when installing new seat covers. It got the job done but at a price. You need really big hands to be able to operate the pliers when loaded with a 3/4 inch ring. The problem comes when you need to force the nose of the tool deep into a fold of the cushion. To fit the ring into the pliers your hand is spread open as far as possible and you are gripping the lever with the extremity of your fingers. Now try and provide the force necessary to reach deep into the cushion. I have really big hands and I was forced to use both on the tool to get it into position and attempt to transition into compression mode without loosing the ring or the position. It can be done but there will be some swearing going on. After using the pliers on one seat the plastic covers on the tool handles have slipped out of position and been torn to pieces. Once I finish the second seat the tool will be trashed. If you need to set a lot of rings or if you have less than gargantuan hands onsider a ratcheing or phneumatic tool.

Spring loaded jaws and non slip handles
The Ion hog ring pliers worked like a champ. The spring loaded jaws held the ringsin the pliers and the non slip handles made using them very easy. I used them to hog ring bungi cords used to hold a cockpit cover onto a sportfishing yacht.

Just good enough
These pliers do work OK. There is a bit of slop between the 2 halves. Most of the crimps I made required at least 2 passes, as the rings slipped out or made incomplete crimps. If you need to install a lot of hog rings, I would get something better. This is OK for a homeowner needing this for occasional use. While it does crimp, and makes good crimps, needing 2+ passes limits this to light duty use.The 2 halves moving adds a bit of challenge as well. For my very limited use, they did the job. I would really hate to use this on a daily basis. But for the price, for occasional use, they seem OK
