I love the simple, timeless premise of this book: looking at birds can heal you. A beautiful thought, well expressed by this author’s touching story.

I found this an uplifting and soothing read that piqued my interest in not only birding but in being more aware of nature around me.I enjoyed that the author mixed her personal journey and her struggles with health with her guide to discovering the power of bird watching. I liked that it worked as a guide, a workbook and included reflection along with her personal journey into the birding world and the ability it had to help her heal. I have found myself being reminded to look up on days that I feel down or discouraged and be aware of not only the birds around me but nature in general with has the ability to sooth and pull me out of myself and make my heart feel lighter. I appreciate that the book also addresses those with all levels of ability and circumstances. One day I was ill and just sitting on the couch and remembered to look out the window and sure enough spotted a bird busily going back and forth making her nest and I felt my mood lift. In the past I probably wouldn't have even noticed it.I enjoyed this book and feel that it would be helpful to anyone who appreciates outdoor spaces, nature, birds or just discovering the healing properties of looking outside themselves to see the wonder around them!

This book has added a new dimension to birdwatching. I love the healing aspect of birdwatching. I've seen it work with my mother after a health issue and it gave her a lot of peace in her last days. Thank you Tammah Watts for writing this lovely book and passing along your experience of healing through birds!

Ms. Watt’s book is informative, entertaining, and practical - I read it in a couple of days - and I like how there are spots to journal/sketch while birdwatching and hence apply the knowledge that the author is teaching us.I also enjoyed her personal anecdotes throughout the book and the gentle guidance she gives us on how birdwatching can enhance our spiritual well being and our lives.Highly recommend!

I did really like this book but it’s important to note who the audience is. I received this as a gift. I’m an advanced birder so it was a bit basic to me. However, it is a great gift to someone who wants to explore nature and the joy of birding.I definitely appreciate how the author reveals the healing aspects of nature and birdwatching. The author’s personal stories and high levels of expertise made this book great though. It really can allow those who need something to help them heal a nice way to connect with someone who had the same experiences.I think the exercises were great tools for those integrating mindfulness in their lives.I had to remember though that this book isn’t necessarily an introduction to birding exactly but more about exploring the natural world. Of course it gives tips about bird watching in general but it’s not going to be a field guide to birds (which isn’t a bad thing- there are other books for that!). There were some incorrect bird facts and tidbits in here. (Hawks and eagles do not have similar calls and there are no such thing as seagulls, but merely many many species of gulls).So while I would suggest this book to others as I definitely would agree in the power of nature, it would bear serve those who are very new to being out in nature.

I really enjoyed the practical guidance on how to find opportunities for birding, how to approach it, as well as all the benefits of birding and being out in nature. This book is really engaging and made me excited to take on a new hobby!

The author’s writing is so beautiful. It transports me with her stories. It invited me to open my heart to beauty. I will keep looking up because of it. Highly recommend
