Learn this sound, because it's the best way to know it's primed. If the sound is a higher steady hum, the pump is not primed and will run until it burns itself up. For priming, set your plumbing up so you can have a short tubing run from the pump to a valve. This is easy to add to the tube FROM the pump with a tee. When you change bottles, open this valve into an empty bottle until the pump is making a low rumble and water is flowing smoothly into the empty bottle. Typically it only takes 10 seconds or so. Close the valve and the pump should shut off. The pump is now primed and ready. I've had mine for 6 months, and so far so good.
