So many people I know compile the gauss level of many different pickups and obviously if you are building the pickup yourself, it is important that you have this type of tester to know the gauss level of the one you are making to ensure its tone. In my opinion, it takes real patience to measure it to build your own. Based on my experience with using it (only) for guitar pickups, I would say this one is quite a good one, but might not be the most cost effective one however.
