Works well

Works great. Battery seems to last maybe a year, but does depend on how often you use it. Upon arrival the battery of the item was around 70%.. it depleted pretty quick. Had to replace the battery.

Another Quality Zooz Product

I've been getting into home automation more and more lately after a couple small projects solved some annoying quality of life issues for us. It occurred to me I could get a "poor man's alarm system" with this product, and I did exactly that.I have a few other Zooz products which I've been happy with, so I've built up a little bit of "brand trust" with them. I much prefer the Z-Wave technology (over Zigbee and WiFi) for the fact that it uses a lesser-used 900MHz frequency spectrum and is also a "certified" platform. I could have solved the same problem with Zigbee much cheaper, but I just like Z-Wave more.I integrated these with Z-Wave JS on the Home Assistant platform. Integration was super simple and detection is sub-second fast. I then installed them on my two primary doors. I had to get a little "creative" on one of my two doors due to highly limited inside mounting locations, but found a good place after working the problem. I attached the sensor side with sticky velcro, to allow easy battery replacement. I used the provided sticky-tape to mount the magnet, but quickly upgraded to the provided screws after the magnet fell off shortly after install. The sensor is properly sized, though I'd prefer this tech to be even smaller. I definitely don't think it's "too big" for a hall sensor. I'm still on my first battery with these, but I'd generally expect "acceptable" battery life with the infrequency of operation. (If I have complaints, I'll update this review.) They use a CR2023 coin battery, which is easily acquired almost anywhere. In Home Assistant, the platform enumerates open/closed (on/off) status, battery level, low battery, ping and node status. Ping doesn't appear to do much, but all the others are helpful. My automation rules are fairly simple. When we are away and the door opens (sensor on), send an emergency level notification to our phones. I might get a bit "fancier" at some point, but I'm happy for a dirt-cheap, non-cloud, non-subscription alarm system. Combined with my external surveillance and other secret sauce, this was an excellent addition to my DIY home security that seriously rivals any commercial system you could buy.Even though these sensors are a bit on the "spendy" side for a basic hall sensor, I feel it's within an acceptable price range since I got everything I wanted. Considering it's Z-Wave, well sized and provides me with immense security value, I won't think twice about spending "twice as much" when compared to competing technologies. Assuming these hold up, I might buy a couple more. I'm thinking "freezer open" and "fridge open" applications, possibly others as well.Edit: Added quite a few of these now. I've automated my thermostat to turn down if any windows are open, preventing my furnace from trying to heat the outdoors. I also automated the lighting in my crawl space when the access hatch is open. Battery life depends on usage. My front door sensor goes the quickest (~8-10 months), since it's used the most, but on others I'm seeing 1+ year on the CR2023. Solid sensor, would buy more if needed.

Home Assistant

I bought this to add to Alarmo on Home Assistant via Z-Wave JS. This comes with instructions for pairing.-Pros:-Pairing is easy as 1-2-3. I question your intellect if you struggle with pairing this device.-There are 7 different sounds. Several are meant for use as a doorbell, and others as a siren for an alarm system. Some are louder than others, but there is a particular one (#7) that is absolutely loud. It's the type of loud that if an intruder hears it they ought to be running. It's the type of loud that if you place it outside your bedroom it's waking you up (unless you sleep like a rock).-You can plug it in-Battery backup-Cons:-Comes with a wall mount that can be drilled, or mounted with double-sided tape. I prefer a device that allows for mounting that at the outlet, similar to some echo devices, unfortunately one is not available.-A specific siren triggers when the device is touched. It doesn't last long, but it can get annoying if accidently touched.-The LED isn't very bright. I would say it's negligible and would not deter any intruder.Overall, I like this siren. Works for my needs.

Works great with Home Assistant but like another user, I changed the magnet to a stronger one

So this is working so far with HA, but when I initially set it up it always showed OPEN. No matter what I did it wouldn't change, so I read the reviews and saw someone else that changed the magnet. I grabbed a long neodymium magnet and stuck that on my mailbox and it started working!I don't know what's wrong with the included magnet but if you are having the same issue try another magnet with the sensor.

Poor battery life

I got like 6 of these and installed around the house. Battery life is poor - it stops working reliably after some 8 months or so. With 6 of them around the House, I need to change the battery for these every other month or so.I ended up replacing all of these with ring contact sensor. They are z wave compatible, works reliably and have a better batter life and costs less!

best zwave contact sensor on the market

i am a power user of 5 years and have 100+ devices in the zwave network. i have used other contact sensors , Ecolink in particular and they suck. Zooz makes outstanding products and this device is consistent with their top notch quality. it is VERY small and visually unobtrusive. Paired instantly with Hubitat and replaced a Ecolink device that never worked consistently. reaction time is instant. dont waste your money if you need a zwave contact sensor - lots of choices, i have tested many - by far this is the best on the market.Installation tip if you are using it on a metal door; metal doors and magnets dont play well together. I went to the hobby shop and bought some 1/8" thick lead weights boy scouts use on their pinebox derby cars. i used double stick tape and placed the lead between the magnet and door, and sensor and door. It eliminated false reads completely. jj
