I drilled a couple of holes through the shelf and frame, secured it with some small gauge screws. It's not easy to sling things underneath the shelf, and you can fit a tarp or something else that can be packed flat, between the shelf and the pack. Great product. For civilian use the tabs that have been bent downwards (I guess to keep radios/ammo boxes secure) are in the way, and shafe against equipment carried underneath the shelf. Gouging? Why are internet sellers charging so much for items?** A: There certainly is no gouging involved. There are added costs when selling on Amazon to include fulfillment fees, shipping costs, and the Amazon referral cost. When we had our bricks and mortar store, our in store pricing was comparable to what you could purchase them for at your local surplus store. Also not everyone has a surplus store close by. **Q: Do the straps come with it?** A: No, they do not. It comes as the shelf, that hooks onto the alice frame, wrapped in plastic.
