We tested yesterday against some small (<1 ft) waves. COMPLETE failure !1. Leading edge kept getting flipped up by the waves. Sandsbags did no help – would not stay in place.2. Sand collected in the rear area of the water-gate. After a few minutes the dam would not rise again.3. With 1 hr the entire thing filled up with sand and became useless as the waves just passed over it.4. The sand filled water-gate was impossible to move because of the weight. We finally picked it up with a skid-steer but the whole thing tore in two while trying to get the sand out.Waste of $ 2000. I contacted the vendor. They claim we did not use it properly: This is not a failure on the Water-Gate, but rather where the Water-Gate is applied.. The Water-Gates would need to be placed on a concrete surface for minimal seepage.I do not agree with this assessment. Even on concrete, the waves will force sand into the water-gate and it will clog and fail to work. The sand trapped inside the water-gate is very difficult to remove and adds so much weight that it impossible to move without damage. There is no practical way to remove the collected sand.This product is NOT suitable for applications where sand may be deposited. So it should not be recommended for ocean use. In addition, the leading edge is too light and is easily flipped up by waves after which the device does not work.
