**Q: Has anyone been able to perform a blood smear with this product? I have tried to perform a blood smear -nothing works. Does anyone have an insight?**
A: This product is a water based stain.  Unfortunately it will tend to wash the blood off the slide unless you fix the blood smear with methanol before using the stains.  Even then you will tend to have poor luck.  This product is useful to stain cells for counting in a hemocytometer, but not so much for blood smears.  I would suggest buying some methanol to fix the smears then using Wrights stain in methanol solution for staining.  A cheap source of methanol is HEET gas line additive and water remover (yellow bottle) from your auto parts store.  It is pure methanol. Fixing the smear simply means putting the slide in methanol for 30 seconds.

**Q: Do you have to clean the slide with deionized water or do you just put the stain directly on the slide?**
A: If the slide is new, wipe off dust, if there is any. If the slide has been used and has methylene blue on it, you may need to clear the stain with a bleach solution.  Otherwise, wiping a used slide with alcohol may be good enough.

**Q: Are they in powder form or solution? If in solution, are they water or alcohol-based?**
A: Solution, water-based.

**Q: Why can't this be supplemented? It is lab grade or lower quality?**
A: What do you mean by supplemented? 
These work as well as lab grade. What are you staining?

The stain kit arrives well-packaged. Included in the kit are some basic accessories and a set of instructions for those who are just getting into the hobby.This kit was purchased for assessing the viability of yeast for brewing. Everything works exactly as expected.This kit differs from others in that the stains are stored in superior, light-resistant brown dropper bottles. Most of the other manufacturers choose to use clear/opaque packaging. Methylene Blue stain solution is degraded by exposure to light. The choice of packaging extends the life of the stain solutions by reducing exposure to ambient light. Keep stain solutions stored in a cool, dark place away from light when not in use (the shipping package works perfectly for this).Thanks Rs' Science !

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works fairly well!

I used these stains for fungal microscopy. They worked great. The insert was fairly informative, although I ended up looking up protocols online. Decent volume in amber glass bottles. Comes with the dropper in the cap. I wanted some basic stains because I was tired of not being able to find any at work! I'm glad I ordered these, although I probably should have considered a package with more stains. Now, most stain kits come with at least methylene blue, so there will be some extra if I end up taking that route.
