Up to what size chair is this suitable for? I am specifically referring to width.

This ring didn't work for our recliner at all. We were attempting to add swivel to a new rocker recliner, but the bottom of the chair was thrown completely off balance when we installed the ring base. We tried three different methods to make it work, including a plywood plank and moving the entire setup to several different positions. The chair was completely unstable with the ring base, so we took it off. We are now stuck with a chair that won't swivel and a base that will cost too much to ship back to the third party supplier. Don't make the mistake we made!

Can this work on a recliner that's never had a swivel base???

Most definitely! That’s why we bought it. Could not find a swivel recliner that we liked so purchased the chair we wanted and ordered this base. You will need to purchase the bracket kit or make the brackets yourself. Works perfectly!

I want to add this to a chair that has not ever swiveled. Will this base work since it is not a 'replacement' swivel?

I had a great recliner/rocker but, did not swivel. I purchased this swivel base knowing I would have to modify my chair. It was a fairly easy job. I removed the leg assembly, cut a 2x10 to fit in frame where the legs were attached then bolted it all together including the swivel ring. Chair is now perfect, it’s a rocker/recliner and it swivels. It looks like it came from the factory!

What is the weight limit for these bases? We are considering using them to build Periaktoi for our stage, so they have to hold the weight of 3 flats.

I didn’t see a weight limit on the unit when it arrived. If I understand what a flat is I am guessing that it weighs less than the typical recliner with a average person in it.
