Good Reel, I have three of these in different sizes, All are smooth and do the job.

Excellent bomb proof reel that I use for spinning for bass off the beach and heavier lure fishing for pike. The larger handle provides a good secure grip when fishing in surf with heavier lures when hands can become wet and cold. My only criticism is being the absence of a spare spool which for some anglers is a vital requirement when line changes are called for. I cannot seem to find spare spools anywhere for this particular reel. If your decision for a reel dictates a spare spool you may need to contemplate other reels. Such a shame as this is truly a very well made item with a lovely smooth retrieve and silky clutch operation though a little heavy in weight. Lastly, be mindful this has a permanent anti reverse which ensures a good hook up when striking into a fish. In essence, you cannot backwind, therefore you rely on your drag system to play the fish if paying line out as a fish runs. I like this feature as it also stops coils of line from inadvertently falling off the spool causing tangles if the handle was allowed to wind the other way. All in all, a fantastic reel though unfortunately let down by the difficulty of obtaining spare spools!!

A good reel. I like that the handle folds down for transport. It's a bit heavy perhaps, but that doesn't bother me. It's the balance of the whole rod-and-reel combo that matters more than the absolute weight.

Great reel for the money…just could do with finding a spare spool

I own a couple of penn reels and they are performing very well. Build quality and seals are very good. Robust but heavier and a little less smooth than maybe a Shimano but you’re going to pay a premium for those. I’m very happy with my Penns

I don’t have anything better for basis for comparison but this reel feels very smooth, very solid, I haven’t had a single wind knot, drag is excellent. You won’t be disappointed with this thing it’s great. Cast for miles. Now looking at the pricier penn models but unsure how they could improve on this thing enough to justify twice or triple the price. Might just get another size of this one .
