Thule Subterra Backpack 30L, Black

We bought one for travel and liked it so much we bought a second. The 30L is a just bit tight for under-seat airplane storage but we could squeeze it into place well enough and we were allowed to take it as a personal item on both US and international flights. Everything on this bag is of high quality. What we love most is the strap design. I have small shoulders and cannot keep some bags "on" easily. This bag not only stays on one or both shoulders but the structure of the bag nicely distributes weight across the back for easy carrying when full. This is not meant to be a hiking backpack so is not as light as some but it is a fine weight when put up against travel backpacks. Lighter than some Tumi backpacks and "almost" as nice. What I would change? I would love if the THULE logo were a bit smaller and I am not a fan of the blue interior (but it does make it easier to find items....and the blue is not visible when closed. I worried it was visible on the zipper but it very subtle and, again, not noticeable when closed). I might also blend the first two compartments for one bigger compartment but this is personal preference and use. All this aside, we did buy a second one because it was super functional, easy to carry, and made of high quality materials. Advice: I would try to avoid buying during travel season. We bought the first one for $130 and the second one (a week later) for $165. Supply and demand - sigh.

5 Years later, after consistent use and this still remains to be the best backpack I've ever had.

I used this backpack while traveling to carry my purse, my electronics, my personal items like jewelry. medications,make-up,hygiene items and my documents. I did not have to dig through this backpack like previous ones I've owned because this backpack's compartments are perfectly organized. I love how it has a strap that allows it to slide securely over the handle of my carry on suitcase. Also I like how it is longer and slimmer as opposed to the typical backpack which when filled up seems to stick out a mile! ( I hate that!) Yet though this backpack is much slimmer it holds just as much.( I like that!) And when worn is comfortable because it is well padded. Best backpack for traveling by air that I have ever owned. It does stick out just a teeny bit further when you place it under the seat while flying but not so far to be a problem . I highly recommend this backpack for air flights.

I recently purchased my Thule Subterra for a trip to Iceland and London. I lucked out and got one that was Used - Like New. When I opened the box I imagined that the bag would be much bigger. Don't judge the book by the proverbial cover, though. I was VERY pleased with how much it could hold. The only reason why I had to bring another bag with me on my trip was because we went on an Ice Cave tour and I needed to bring my cold-weather gear. Otherwise, I could have done the week-long trip with only my Subterra. I also love the tech bag that comes with it. It has become my new computer bag for work. I highly recommend this product.

The only reason I did not give 5⭐️ is the bag cannot stand upright. It always falls forward, so has to be propped against something or laid flat. Apart from that, the compartments are thought through and enough for all my MacBook Pro, camera, hard drives, headphones, power brick, cables & more! Keeps everything together in a stylish and very durable backpack. I will buy this again. Looking at the Thule travel duffle next! 👀☺️

Looks great, ample storage pockets, comfortable when fully loaded, zippers feel solid, backpack feels well made and no signs of wear over the last 9 months despite daily use. I can't find anything to critique!
