Review: Good bass - Good result of bass
Review: Great sound potential, but serious tweeter crackle/crossover issue in my setup - I bought the JBL Stadium 62CF component speakers expecting a loud, clean, high-quality upgrade. On paper they should be more than capable: 110 W RMS, 3 ohm, supplied passive crossovers, and marketed as a proper performance component speaker set. The speakers do sound clear and crisp in many situations. Vocals are clean, the woofers can play clearly, and the general sound quality has potential. However, I have had a very frustrating issue with the tweeters making an awful high-pitched metallic crackle/rattle on certain songs at moderate to high volume. This was not caused by door trim vibration. I removed the tweeter and held it in my hand while testing, and the same noise was still coming from the tweeter itself. Both tweeters behaved the same way. The tweeters were wired correctly through the supplied JBL passive crossovers, using the tweeter output. The crossovers were set to 2-way and I also tried the -3 dB tweeter setting. I tested this with a Vibe 65.4-8 DSP amplifier, which is not an overpowered amplifier for these speakers. I also had the system limited during testing. I tried EQ bypass, direct Bluetooth into the amp, and also reduced the high frequencies heavily in the DSP, including large cuts around 4 kHz, 6.3 kHz and 8 kHz. The crackle still appeared on certain songs. What made the issue very confusing is that pure test tones sounded clean. I tested 1 kHz, around 4.3 kHz, 8 kHz and frequency sweeps, and the tweeters did not sound obviously distorted on those tones. The issue appeared mainly with complex music, where it sounded like a metallic crackle or plastic/metallic dome resonance from the tweeter. The biggest clue was the amplifier high-pass filter. With the high-pass around 70 Hz, the crackling issue could happen. When I raised the high-pass filter to around 95–100 Hz with a steep 30 dB/octave slope, the noise mostly disappeared, although it can still sometimes come through even at 100 Hz. This is especially disappointing because the woofer’s listed resonant frequency is around 82.7 Hz. That should be a useful part of the lower door-bass region, but in my setup I cannot properly take advantage of that area because I have to high-pass the speakers much higher to stop the tweeter artefact. In other words, I have to sacrifice a lot of the door bass these speakers should be capable of producing just to reduce the tweeter crackle. That is my main complaint. This is sold as a matched component speaker kit with passive crossovers, and I should not have to high-pass the system around 95–100 Hz just to reduce the tweeters making an unpleasant metallic crackle. Even then, the problem is not completely gone in my setup. The supplied crossover should make the woofer/tweeter handover behave properly, especially when used with a sensible amplifier and conservative gain settings. To be clear, the speakers are not completely bad. They can sound very clear, and with a high enough high-pass filter the problem is reduced. But if you want strong door bass and loud clean playback, this issue is a serious concern. In my setup, the speakers only behaved acceptably once I compromised the bass output. I would not recommend these without caution. If you buy them, test them carefully with the supplied crossovers before fully installing everything. Pay close attention to the tweeters on complex tracks at moderate to high volume. If you hear a metallic crackle, try raising the high-pass filter to around 95–100 Hz and see if it improves but be aware that this may reduce the door bass performance you bought the speakers for.

### ⭐ Serious tweeter/crossover issue
*by L***G on 29 June 2026*

I bought the JBL Stadium 62CF speakers expecting a proper loud, clean component speaker upgrade. These are sold as performance speakers, and on paper they should be more than capable: 110 W RMS, 3 ohm, supplied passive crossovers, and a woofer resonance around 82.7 Hz. Unfortunately, in my setup they have a very clear and unacceptable issue: the tweeters produce a horrible metallic high-pitched crackle/rattle on certain songs at moderate to high volume. This is not door trim vibration. I physically removed the tweeter and held it in my hand while testing, and the noise was still coming directly from the tweeter. Both tweeters behave the same way. This is also not a simple wiring mistake. The tweeters are connected through the supplied JBL passive crossovers using the correct tweeter output. The crossovers are set to 2-way, and I also tried the -3 dB tweeter setting. The problem still occurs. I tested this with a Vibe 65.4-8 DSP amplifier, which is not overpowering these speakers. The system was limited during testing, and I also tried EQ bypass, direct Bluetooth into the amplifier, and heavy DSP cuts around the high-frequency range. I cut areas such as 4 kHz, 6.3 kHz and 8 kHz very aggressively, but the crackle still appeared on certain tracks. The strange part is that pure test tones and sweeps sound clean. I tested 1 kHz, around 4.3 kHz, 8 kHz and frequency sweeps, and the tweeters did not obviously distort on those tests. The issue appears with complex music, where the tweeter produces a metallic crackling artefact over the top of the track. The biggest clue was the amplifier high-pass filter. With the high-pass set lower, around 70 Hz, the issue was much more noticeable. Raising the high-pass filter to around 95–100 Hz with a steep 30 dB/octave slope mostly reduces the issue, although it can still occasionally come through even at 100 Hz. That is a major problem. The woofer’s listed resonance is around 82.7 Hz, which should be a useful part of the lower door-bass region. But in practice I cannot properly use that area because I have to high-pass the speakers much higher just to stop the tweeters making a nasty metallic crackle. That means sacrificing a lot of the door bass these speakers should be capable of producing. For a matched component kit with supplied passive crossovers, this is not good enough. The crossover should manage the woofer and tweeter handover properly. I should not need to remove most of the lower door-bass region just to make the tweeters behave. To be clear, these speakers can sound crisp and detailed when they are not triggering the issue. Vocals can be clean and the general sound has potential. But the tweeter crackle makes them extremely frustrating to tune and difficult to trust at volume. I would not recommend these if you want strong door bass and loud clean playback. If you buy them, test them carefully before fully installing them. In my experience, they only became acceptable after raising the high-pass filter so high that it compromised the bass performance I bought them for.
