When the extendable valve is removed it then looks similar to a ordinary clean out. **Q: Does the valve close automatically when there is a backup like a check valve or do you have to close it for it to work** A: It closes automatically. Just make sure to clean the flapper. I pull out the assembly and clean it in the spring and again in the fall. It hasn’t let me down yet. This one is high quality and made in the USA. It is supposed to be installed outside your home but I installed it in my basement. It is a great design and has a very heavy duty flapper to stop the back flow. It has to be maintained a couple of times a year but all that means is you have to pull out the flapper assembly wash it so everything stays clean and it will work properly. It may cost more than the ones you can buy at the "Big Chain Stores", but it is worth the investment.
