Don’t buy if you don’t have a green thumb.
Most of the seeds did not grow. I gave half to my girlfriend for her home who has a green thumb and she has 4 plants going strong. They grow slow and need care. The one I was able to save was knocked down and chewed on by my kitten which was very sad but my lady loves them and they look great in her home. She took a lot of pride in keeping them alive. 7 months and they are not very big but going strong. The kit was nice but do your own research, instructions do not include long term care. It was a great thing to share with her and it makes me happy she was able to keep hers alive. These take work, if you are a dummy like me and can’t grow stuff don’t buy them and let someone like my lady grow them and give them a nice home. 10/10 would gift again.

Great kit, 4 beautiful species, no stratificattion needed. Would recommend.
The kit contains everything you need to start bonsai trees. I do recommend getting a bigger pot and replacing the peat soil with akadama soil after the seeds germinated. In my experience, the Picea Abies seeds have the low germination success (1 out of 4 seeds) and Jacaranda Mimosifolia (2 of 6 seeds). The Jacaranda Mimosifolia takes a long time to germinate so be patient with that one. Pinus Arista and Delonix Regia were able to germinate successfully and rapidly although scarification is recommended for Delonix Regia since its shell is extremely hard and waterproof. NONE OF THE SEEDS REQUIRES STRATIFICATION PROCESS. :D Don't expect immediate results and beautiful trees since these are seeds and requires years to grow before training. Overall, a good and well-priced kit for a beautiful ancient art. Update: 3 months All the trees are growing nicely. One of the Delonix died, the other is starting to die. Found out they are really sensitive to water and temperature so do not over water it/leave in extreme temps. (The leaves open and close in relation to environmental condition) This has happened before but it came back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE PEAT SOIL FOR THIS TREE. The Jacaranda Mimosifolia starts off slow but began to grow really rapidly; main trunk is starting to show signs of barks and hardening. The remaining pine-like trees are still alive but grows really really slowly, not much noticable growth since one month in.

Bummed only one seed germinated
I wish I knew how to contact this company and request a new seed set, I followed the instructions to a T and only one seed germinated. I was excited to grow Bonsai trees, the one that is growing seems to be doing great. When soaking the seeds, I saw almost no activity. The seeds must have been damaged or frozen. Kinda bummed. I gave it 2 stars because everything was there, and I did get one tree. Update: Planters Choice contacted me and offered to fully refund my purchase. I suspect that the seeds were damaged somehow, and I am very grateful they responded so quickly. I will most likely give them another chance since there are so many positive reviews. I bumped the review to 4 stars due to them quickly contacting me and wanting to make things right.

A Fun Way to Grow Miniature Trees
I picked up a few of these kits as Christmas presents, and they’ve been a hit. Each box comes with everything needed to get started, from seeds to helpful instructions. I was worried it might be too complex, but it’s actually beginner-friendly. The recipients love having a hands-on gardening project that feels special and different from typical houseplants. Watching the seeds sprout and grow into miniature trees is so satisfying, and it adds a calm, creative element to any space. If you’re looking for a neat gift for friends or family who enjoy gardening—or want to try something new—this kit is a solid choice.

Misleading Bonsai Starter Kit - A Total Rip Off
I purchased the Bonsai Starter Kit with high hopes of kickstarting my bonsai journey, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a complete letdown. I'll start with the positives – their customer service is commendable. When I complained about missing a species specified in the kit, they promptly sent me a pack with all the seeds. However, that's where the praise ends. The kit includes seeds, pots, coco coir, and what can only be described as subpar scissors. These scissors are barely suitable for cutting sewing threads, let alone handling the demands of bonsai work. They quickly rusted, adding insult to injury. One major flaw with this kit is the emphasis on growing from seeds. For a bonsai newbie like myself, the last thing I wanted was to start from scratch with seeds. Bonsai requires patience, but there's a limit. Most beginners want to work with a tree immediately, whether it's a pre-bonsai or a ready-made bonsai. Moreover, the selection of species included in the kit is questionable. Species like Royal Poinciana and Blue Jacaranda are known to be problematic as bonsai specimens. For a spruce, it's much more practical to visit a local nursery or even Home Depot. In essence, this kit is a total rip-off. It preys on the enthusiasm of bonsai beginners, offering inadequate tools and species that aren't ideal for those just starting out. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for a bonsai kit that actually delivers on its promises.

With a product like this (that you plant and grow), a lot of the value you receive comes from the time and effort that you put into it in the first place. The instructions provided give a comprehensive introduction to bonsai for a novice, and shows how to sow the seeds properly and easily. I am only one month into growing my bonsai, but the kit appears to have done its job properly and I cannot fault it. The customer service department sent me a friendly email saying that if I needed help or advice I only had to give them a message. The picture I have provided is the Jacaranda seeds, exactly one month after sowing. The instructions said it would take 3-5 weeks for germination to occur but mine happened after about 2 weeks. :) If I had to offer some criticism it would only be that the information on Bonsai pruning is a bit limited. Very happy with this product.

2 year review. Some failed and some lived. I am looking forward to the third years as they build stronger. Very solid kit, although the pines are very hard to grow as the other seeds/trees require more heat/humidity
