You want to avoid splitting the lathe boards behind the plaster, so a nice sharp bit is a good idea. Then insert the Toggler, and make sure the metal "nut" part of it is vertical - that gives it a better chance of catching a couple of different lathe boards. If the lathe splits and you put the metal but horizontally, it could be much weaker. Plaster is not nearly as strong for this sort of thing as drywall would be, so getting a good grip on the lathe is critical. You'll also need a longer fastener than you would with drywall. **Q: whats the diff between ba and bb designition?** A: BA indicates 3/16", BB indicates 1/4" **Q: I received these and tried to use them but they break off behind the wall where the plastic attaches to the anchor. Anyone know why?** A: You push the toggle in the hole, open it up, pull it back tight and then slide the plastic sleeve down until it is tight against the sheetrock on the outside and then carefully snap the excess strips that are sticking out on the outside and then you get your bolt and screw into it. We have put in hundreds of these that hold up hundreds of pounds and never had one break off. Hope this helps. Make sure you are drilling the size of hole they recommend to slip the toggle through. My gripe with this particular offering is that it DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 1/4 x 20 BOLTS. Why? I get that the onus is on me to thoroughly read all the disclosures including the tiny one about not including bolts. Everyone of these that I have purchased to this point or have been client provided have included matching bolts. It was quite frustrating to be working on an installation at 10 PM and pop this open only to find out you’re missing half of what you need to use the product. It makes no sense. I guess the difference is $8 in price for bolts based off purchasing the β€œsame” product two months prior? Please stop even offering the version without bolts, it’s not worth the frustration and time running around to find a piece of equipment necessary for the product to fulfill its ultimate function.
