Couture Sewing Techniques, Revised and Updated Review: I got it - Good , reasonably priced and it arrived well packaged Review: Excellent buy - Like most, I am a home sewer. However, when younger, I was taught to do most of the sewing by hand. Then I got my own sewing machine, and like everyone else, thought that was the way to sew. And of course, YouTube videos show you people sewing at top speed on a machine. One day, I sat hand basting a boy's classic shirt and even hand embroidering the pocket - which was quicker than fooling around on the machine. I liked it and it brought back memories of earlier years. I saw the haute couture definition and how they use a lot of hand sewing. I had hand sewn, hand basted and mended as a child and even hand sewn a buttonhole, so I got the book. Wow! It is amazing and I started doing some of the stitches a little better on a practice piece of fabric. I corrected my ironing while sewing as I had gotten slap happy with that. Why not hand sew a garment well like the haute couture sewers? It is a big book with so much information, but I want to go through it. I even saw how to get better threads and needles instead of just grabbing anything. You can get a blouse pattern and before sewing it, you can look at the techniques the book shows you or combine home sewing with haute couture. I really like this book.

DO NOT GET THE KINDLE VERSION
This is an absolutely amazing book, and I am terribly excited to finally learn more about couture techniques. The book is full of illustrations, as well as pictures of beautiful couture garments. This is going to be a treasured part of my library. HOWEVER. The formatting is so screwed up in the Kindle version as to be almost unreadable. Even in the Table of Contents; Part Two is listed first, and Part One is embedded strangely a page or two later. So yes, get this delightful book, but suck it up and get the paper version.

Sewing Book
The book was a used book. I had no great expectations for it physically. The book contains some helpful hints on hand sewing and etc.

Good book, great techniques but a little ....bent
Wonderful book on couture techniques with clear illustrations and (fairly) plain language. I'm having a great time paging through it. But it arrived... severely curved. It will probably take a week or more to ease the bend out of the front and back covers.

for the diehard lovers of couture creation
This one is for those who really love the process, who are never stretched when holding a sewing needle or creating perfection. The young zealots who want fine clothes and are willing to spend hours lovingly making great creations. Personally, I am a bit past that, but I keep the book because I come from an Italian sewing background of very high standards and any work that has mastery to it,is, aesthetically, a pleasure to behold.

Bestimmt ein tolles Buch, aber die Kindle Version ist absolut unbrauchbar. Die Sätze hören mitten drin auf, die Bilder sind nicht zuzuordnen, komplettes Chaos.

Fabulous sewing tips and photos of almost unbelieveable high fashion garments from early 1930's. A unique addition to my sewing collection.

The book is in perfect condition and Claire Shaeffer is fabulous. The only thing I regret is not buying a more recent edition with more pictures...
