Some folks complain about a smell which as I've learned over a lifetime usually dissipates as the rubber airs out over time. The process of making Rubber causes the smell which personally I would have thought people would understand before ordering this product! Rubber takes a super long time to deteriorate so it will survive in many situations where as synthetic or fake rubber mats will quickly harden and break apart. I'll deal with any smell the rubber has because I know it will dissipate and I wanted a Matting that holds up to the elements and weather.. If a small really bothers someone use DAWN dish soap to wash both sides before use. This may or may not fix the trivial issue of smalls, IMPO.

I bought these because I had a ramp installed off my deck for my aging dog and one that was having a hip replaced. The angle was just steep enough that they couldn't get great traction. They arrived fine. They are VERY heavy, but I was able to get them where I needed them. They unrolled perfectly. They give incredible traction. My dogs don't hesitate to go up and down the ramps now. I have had them on for almost four months and they are holding up great. I took one star for two reasons. First, the smell. They are rubber and boy do they stink, for about a month. Second, the first HEAVY frost in the area caused them to loose all traction. Without realizing this would happen, I let my dogs out as normal, only to watch them slide down the ramps. It created a dangerous situation. They got zero traction. I have purchased paw safe salt for the next time this happens and am hoping it doesn't destroy the mats. Because of the steepness of the top part, it does develop a small bulge, but that isn't the mats fault. All said and done, I'd buy them again.

This was a perfect fit for her ramp and she says she feels more secure going up and down. The painted wood could get slippery if wet even with sand mixed in. She loves it!

Replacement for small dog ramp, the ribs work great for our dog to grip her paws to walk up the ramp. It is very hard to clean, almost have to remove the mat each time and scrub over the wash basin. It was easy to cut to fit our ramp, however the smell of chemicals is overwhelming and gave me horrible headaches, sneezing, watery eyes, we basically had to throw it out and use something different. After a month the smell of harsh chemicals were just as strong as the day it was received. We have washed it with soap and water, dawn dish detergent, sprayed cologne, air freshener and nothing seem to help remove the harsh chemicals. I have since taken to my wood shop where the smell still remains as strong among all the other odors related to woodworking. It would have been the perfect solution with the ribs for our aging dog to grip with her paws. However the harsh chemicals made my eyes water, sneezing, severe headaches and a odor that lingers in the air 24 hours a day. Odor is still as strong as the day I received it even after putting it in the wood shop. I personally would not recommend this to be used inside a home with a closed environment. I feel it should be used as a outdoor door mat other than it very hard to clean the grooves.
