Always glad when toddler picks out this story for her bedtime story! Review: My two year-old's very favorite bedtime book... and mine too. - My two year-old adores this book. She asks for it as often as her other favorites, the classic Good Night Moon, and I Dare You! by Nicole Maubert. All other books in her large collection are frequently in rotation, but those three have a place of honor. The text is all written in a very kid-friendly all-caps font that swirls and weaves through the illustrations. It's the only book we own where my toddler seems as interested in the text as she is in the pictures. It also encourages parents to play up the voices - for example, the word "yawn" is written YAAAAAAWN in text that gradually tapers off, just like a real yawn would. The book also has lots of opportunities for parents to practice their voice acting (in our house, each animal has their own voice, which my daughter loves!). The story starts off very silly but transitions into a much calmer read about halfway through the book, when Susie Sue narrates a story to put the animals to sleep. It's a great trick to get our daughter in the right frame of mind for bed - she can start out giggling and fully attentive, and then calm down as the characters do. We got a few books to help my 2 YO transition from her crib to her toddler bed and this has been (BY FAR) the winner and favorite of the bunch! Reco for slightly older kids, too!
