A Geek in Thailand: Discovering the Land of Golden Buddhas, Pad Thai and Kickboxing (Geek In...guides) Paperback – January 26, 2016

This book definitely whets one's appetite for traveling. A bright and colorful travelogue of beautiful Thailand, filled with fascinating information, vibrant photos, and personal experiences, on a vast array of subjects, including language, landmarks, traditional culture, pop culture, lifestyle and customs, and certainly cuisine concentrating on the coolest aspects of travel, and generally all the good stuff (with caveats of course). Gives the reader a real sense of the daily life or just being a traveler on an ideal vacation. I also highly recommend Tuttle's companion books: A Geek In Japan, A Geek In Korea, and A Geek In China, each book is a little different but all are packed with fun facts and completely informative, though some of these books (especially A Geek In Korea) could use a little update. This is an excellent and enjoyable book, and I fully recommend it to the culture curious.

This is a great travel guide for Thailand. It provides tips for things to see, do, and eat and it gives history and information about the country, its sites, and its people. I shared it with folks on our Groupon trip in Thailand and they too found it quite interesting. I'd recommend it for anyone interested in learning some interesting factoids about Thailand.

It's adequate but not particularly helpful. It's on par with Wikipedia for total information, and the information is difficult to retain because there's no narrative or long term demonstration of cause and effect over the course of Thai history.

I am always looking for a book to be a gift for my friends... I am Thai and my English is not too good. Problem is, when I talk with my foreign friends, they always ask me about Thailand and I don't know how to give them the information. But when I found out that Jody wrote this book, I feel I trust him after reading every word and I can feel the love he has for Thailand. Now I know I have the perfect gift for my friends ...

Captures the essence of Thailand. Used as a guidebook during our three week visit. Our experiences were very similar as depicted by the author. The regional differences were as described. The Phuket tours were fantastic.

The book is attractively designed, an attempts to describe Thai culture more than a typical travel guide. The book is weak on nature tourism. I noticed a couple of typos.

Great guidebook. It’s laid out kind of like Guinness World Book of Records used to be. With facts and pictures for each. I found this really helpful for my trip to Bangkok, Phuket and Phi Phi. I read it cover to cover.
