After searching all the sets, we found this to be the best-rated and were familiar with the Pearl brand. It's impeccably packed and very well-organized. The sticks are adequate but basic so we upgraded those by choice not by necessity. The set works fine as is. There is only one base for the stands which is the only way this set fails in comparison to others, but he's only using one instrument at a time in lessons, so for him it doesn't matter. At home we set the xylophone out on a table so he has access to both all the time. This kit has the notes engraved on the bells, which is a huge help to a child learning to play. The kit we were renting did not have this, and we have found it made a huge difference for our child. Also the kit comes with a drum pad, which is pretty important if you want some peace and quiet, like ever.She can easily assemble/disassemble the unit with no problems. The only downside is that it's a little heavy and I have to help her lift it in and out of the car. But, she's 10, so that's expected.
