I was introduced to the Stoic philosophy a couple of years ago by a business associate and it has really transformed my life. This is a great coin to carry every day in our pocket or purse to remind us that we could leave life at any time whether we have already lived a long life, are just getting started or somewhere in between. It comes with a plastic capsule protecting the coin from wear and tear that can be easily removed and be reused over and over again. To me the coin feels solid and well-constructed. It should last a lifetime. The brass with bronze plating of the coin looks elegant. Even better than the look and feel of the coin is the quote on the reverse side by Marcus Aurelius, a former Roman Emperor. Beyond the simple reminder that we wouldn’t want to leave life after doing, saying, or even thinking wrong of others before having the opportunity to say we are sorry, the quote reminds us of the only three things in life that we have total control over. That is what we think, the words we say and the actions we take. An important part of being a practicing stoic is to not surrender these powers to others. Even others having different philosophies or religions can also benefit from this way of thinking. When we give others these powers, we may end up saying or doing harm to them by allowing our reaction to what they said or did to justify doing physical harm or saying harmful words to them. I've had this in my pocket for a little while, now, and I have to say that I am reminded that it's there far more often than I had anticipated. I'll feel its weight, I'll hear it clink with the other contents of my pocket and it will me me think. This coin has a great weight and is beautifully crafted.

Solid feeling coin - I carry it in my pocket now, a constant reminder that I am mortal and at any moment (I recall the UPS driver that was killed when a private plane with a stalled engine crashing into his truck as he was delivering a package, beautiful sunny afternoon - then gone) I could be done with my earthly journey.
