Up until now I have had a very surface level understanding of bond investing. I kept putting off learning anything about them for some reason. Stocks and stock index fund investing was my "goto". I've lived long enough to experience stock market crashes and seeing the market and economy struggle. The topics in this book will help you formulate a strategy (according to your risk tolerance) that should lessen the pain of these pull backs that are a certainty. It covers how to acquire bonds, the importance of diversification, all the many types of bonds, the bond market and brokers, different tax treatment for bonds and how bonds fit into a modern retirement strategy for fixed income and to mitigate the effects of inflation. And of course more information is included that I did not callout. Now I have a more secure financial future that will include bonds along with stocks. They work together to help you maintain the lifestyle you've planned very hard for. It may help you sleep better at night when your income sources are mostly market driven -- to some extent.

Whether you are in retirement or will retire in the future, which is every one, you need this. Bonds are harder to understand than stocks, and everyone will need to invest in bonds at some point. If you educate yourself on bonds and stocks your retirement will be much easier, will have less need for a financial advisor, and even if you use one you should understand what they are doing with your money. Highly recommend it.

I learn something new each time I read it and get a deeper understanding of what I already thought I understood. It's a good read if you are interested in investing.

I've been investing for several decades and I learned from this book. Has some wisdom. Worth reading for sure.

This third edition was released in 2022. I bought this book to learn his opinion about the interaction of inflation, the fed rate and the resultant pricing effects on bonds in a declining rate environment. My questions were not answered. Author added 25 pages and revised a few pages here and there. Most revisions occurred with his table of contents :(. If you want to learn about bonds, save some money and buy the older version, or just learn from the internet.

Typical Dummies format with clear explanations and a little dry humor sprinkled throughout.
