Healthy Cats are Happy Cats
I've been using the Drinkwell 360 for my two cats for about three years. My cats used to get chronic UTIs from not drinking enough. The vet recommended a fountain for the cats to encourage them to drink more. After going through several that broke, leaked, or the cats refused to use, we settled on the Drinkwell 360. Ever since, we've not had a single UTI, so it's worth it's weight in gold. Healthy cats are happy cats. I have used the three packs. I've tried that $30 refillable filter. Waste of time and expense. I had to break down the fountain far more often than when I just used the three pack. Of the two, I will chose the three pack every time for convenience and ease, and price. I pay on average $7 for a box of three of filters. I break down a plastic bowl to clean out the build up (which for people wondering it's four pieces of plastic that need to be cleaned. Not a big deal). It's important to clean out the pump when replacing the filters. The slime and hair buildup on and under the pump will ruin the filters faster than anything else and the cats won't drink the water. Also if you're concerned about the charcoal, I typically soak the filter for about an hour in a cold water in a glass. It removes much of the remains from the filters and it doesn't leave charcoal residue in the fountain, though in all honesty, my cats didn't seem to care one way or the other. We use purified drinking water in the wells. It helps to preserve the life of the filters, but you will still get the build up. Cat saliva and hair adds to the water when they use it, so it will still need to be cleaned. Not using a filter will break the pump and you'll have wasted however much you paid for the fountain, when it dies. Also the more cats using the fountain, the more often you'll need to break it down to clean it. I have two cats using it. It usually needs to broken down every two weeks. Perfectly acceptable and far fewer cleanings required than when I tried using the "Forever Filter" garbage filter.

Filters Well, Clogs Quickly
The Drinkwell 360 is a great watering fountain for multi-cat homes. I sometimes wish that it did not require a filter, but it does. These filters work very well, keeping the water much fresher than regular water bowls that develop a filmy slime layer on the bottom. The downside is that the filters clog very quickly, and need to be replaced frequently. While they are not terribly expensive, they are costly over time. My wife and I drink tap water, and the cats get filtered water.... hmm... When you first rinse one of these out, you'll notice that water flows straight through it, turning the water grey as it picks up some of the carbon dust. This is expected. Try to recall how quickly the water flows through it, because as you're cleaning the actual pump until, you can get an idea of how "spent" the filter is by holding it under running water. A spent filter will not allow much water to pass through. It'd be great if we could buy these by the case, because we do go through one every two - three weeks, and a surplus supply would be a relief. They are easy to store and easy to use. Overall, a great (though frustratingly necessary) accessory for your Drinkwell fountain.

They do the job
These filters may not be the absolute best, but they get the job done. If you rinse the filters properly before you install them, it helps a lot.
