Excellent - Read this if you experience noise and vibration after install
Third time's a charm. I love this shifter, but it took me three times to get it right. As to the shifter itself, the shifts are amazingly short and firm and is an excellent upgrade to your Challenger. I used to have to guess where 5th gear was and would miss shifts with increasing frequency using the stock shifter. This Hurst shifter solved all of those problems and gives your machine a firm and determined feeling to all shifts. Why did I install it three times? The noise and vibration was unbearable! It sounded like a box of rocks being tossed around and the whirring sounds of the transmission bearings were driving me insane. Full throttle over 3K RPMs and I thought the center console was going to vibrate out of the car.1st install was done without using the supplied sound-suppession materials. Noise was excessive and LOUD. Lots of Vibration at 3k RPM+2nd install was done using the supplied Dynamat, and I also bought and installed some extra sound-suppressing mat for the transmission tower panel. Unfortunately, the sound was still there. It was lessened somewhat, but it was still bad. Also, if you apply the Dynamat supplied by Hurst using their instructions, your shifts will be affected. Because you are applying the dynamat to the shift rod joints, your shifting feels like it's dragging a bit and is noticeably less crisp than without the Dynamat. Still had vibration.3rd and final time. After searching on the internet and also on other reviews here, I found the solution and it's much easier than I realized. Other reviewers mentioned using the stock 'bushing' from the original shifter. This confused me as the only bushings I were on the shifter forks. I didn't want to replace those. Finally figured out that it's not a bushing - it's a either called an isolator or vibration dampener of some sort. It just slides off the shifter. I replaced the Hurst isolator with the original one and bam! Perfect! Shifts are perfect, vibration free and quiet ( a little bit of noise over stock ) and I'm extremely happy now!Get this shifter and you will love it!

Great Shifter
Its a great shifter, really reduceses the shift throw and stiffens up the shifts. It feels like a shifter should and the classic white ball gives it the "old school" feel. My only issue with it is the sound and loudness. You hear all the transmission noise and a lot more engine noise. The engine noise sounds good but thransmission noise sounds like a bag of rocks being dragged on the concrete. I used the bushing provided by hurst but the oem one dampens the noise significantly. Add some dynomat and its barely louder then stock. Also, im not crazy about how uncentered the shift lever sits. Reguardless of if you mount it on the right or left it wont sit in the middle. You can fix this by using the stock shift knob. All in all its great for me and i love it.

SHIFTER HANDLE SNAPPED OFF!!!
First let me say that I very seldom write reviews, I just don't have the time (just like most folks) but this product and the absolutely worthless customer service at Hurst demands that I put my experience up on Amazon. OK so this shifter installed and worked very well for the time that it did. Installation was straight forward and the shifts were short and precise--exactly what I wanted when I bought this. Sounds pretty good so far right???So last week I'm driving to an appointment I needed to make and right outside of my neighborhood while attempting to shift up from 2nd the handle snapped off!!! I was in neutral and had to pull over to the side. At first I just thought that a bolt may have come loose so I walked back home and grabbed some tools. To my utter disbelief I found that the shifter handle block had snapped off at the throw rod. Yes, the solid steel throw rod had snapped. Now I don't use steroids, but even if I did there's no way I should've been able to snap a solid steel rod. I figured maybe I just got a lemon.........but then I started digging around and found that this is not an isolated incident. Not even kinda. This is clearly a defect in design. So I call customer service to find out some information on this. I explained what had happened and before I could even finish saying what I wanted the dip$#!t on the other end of the phone is throwing the 1 year warranty in my face. I hadn't even been thinking about that. What I wanted was to explain what happened, find out if there was a replacement throw rod (which I fully expected to have to pay for) that I could use in the meantime until I find a better option and most importantly find out if Hurst even knew that this was an issue and what it was doing about it. Instead I get anecdotal nonsense about how the customer service rep has one and how he had never had a problem. He was completely unmoved by the fact that this had happened or that I had to have my vehicle towed back to my house. I was lucky that this happened where it did. It couldve easily happened on a freeway or at an intersection or even worse with my kid in the passenger seat. Hurst's customer service rep's clear indifference to what I was telling him was enough reason for me to make this shifter the last Hurst product I ever buy again. To anyone who has this installed in their car, my situation should be enough to make you concerned. Please feel free to contact me with any questions [email protected]
