Q: How does it work? Is the switch activated when the wand is bent? I'm guessing bending the wand closes/completes the circuit?

Switch is open when body down (wand is bent)

Q: Can this switch be changed to normally open?

This switch cannot be modified to operate normally open.

Q: How do you wire this ?

Determine if the switch is normally closed or open by ohming out the wires and moving the shaft and see what the ohm meter reads. Without moving the shaft if the ohm meter reads infinity and 0 ohms when the shaft is moved, the switch is normally open. Fuse one wire and connect the other wire to your light and the other wire from your light to ground. When the shaft moves the light will illuminate.
