It is more like the lunch bag kind. :)

The plastic is not stiff or hard. Stretchy is not a description I would use for a plastic bag. It's not quite as soft as a bag for a loaf of bread, but it is easy to handle. Basically it serves to hold a garment in shape during shipping. It seems to do this job well enough as I have had no complaints from customers on problems with shipping.

Q: would this be appropriate to display vintage brochures and literature?

This are really meant for clothing. If you’re putting something vintage in bags I would find some type of archival bags to protect the item and prevent turning colors

Q: Do these smell of plastic? I want to pack fabrics in them, and don't want the fabric to smell like the bag.

I use them for shipping clothing items. I have not noticed any smell or had any issues with customers using theses bags.
