the reason being is that the screw holes on the bottom of the mounting rails do not line up. i suppose if you want to mount a unit using only 2 screws you certainly can but then your putting the weight of the unit on 2 screws not 4. one of the sides was also not fully machined so when inserted in the top and bottom there is a slight gap. perhaps hitting with a rubber mallet might force it in but i don't have one and using a hammer will certainly damage the unit

This is a nice desktop rack, very solid, but it's pricy for what you actually get. They grey color looks a bit more brown to me as well. Overall, though, it's easy to assemble (use a power driver), and gets the job done. I wish they made a 10U version. Lots of extra parts included; don't worry, they really are extra.
